They're All Over Now, Baby Blue
Wed Apr 20 2016

Two years ago my friend C. gave me a large packet that contained thousands of seeds for a wildflower called Baby Blue Eyes. This is a wildflower that is not found in my corner of the state, but is very happy down in her neck of the woods. It was Spring at the time, and I proceeded to walk all around the homestead dropping them here and there in varied places that seemed conducive to wildflower happiness. I waited. Nothing happened. Last Spring, I took a look around on the other side of the ice pond to see if any of them had come up. I found nary a one. I was disappointed because they really are the most charming little plants. Two days ago as I was walking back up from the garden I saw something in the lawn. DSC00984 Then I saw another one just nearby... DSC00985 This was a spot that I had flung the very last seeds, almost to just shake them off my hands. Immediately, I grabbed the camera and scrambled down into and then out of the ice pond to check the meadow on the other side. Sure enough... a miracle had happened there too! DSC00970 DSC00969 Now, by no means is the meadow COVERED in them, but there were way more than two dozen plants! All of our lovely rain must have coaxed them out of dormancy and now I hope they will always live around here. Seeds are astonishing creations. I will never understand their mysterious nature. I'm just glad to have these little beauties decide to grace us with their presence at last. May they all go to seed and sprout new plants until that meadow is a blue carpet that will surprise the foxes, amaze the jackrabbits and confound the deer for years to come.   lime wild

They are so pretty and isn't it wonderful that the last of the seeds did this-nice start for sure.
