I was just sitting down with my physical journal... picking out just the right color pen to write with today... [have you ever seen the full range of colors the Pilot G2 pen comes in?] I ended a sentence with a preposition. I don't think you are supposed to do that. (You don't even know what a preposition is actually all about. And yet you are leaving it that way. This says so much about you. Self awareness, sloppiness, and rebellion all stirred up, side by each in a steaming pot of dillweedyness. I don't know how I cope.) Yes, we are all aware of the dungeon of anguish you choose to wallow in. [Heh heh.] Anyway, as soon as I picked out the teal green pen and started thinking about what I would write about, I realized that the time had arrived for winter soul searching. A time for list making that involves brainstorming to redirect my incrementally diminishing reservoirs of energy as a card carrying, bonafide, annoyingly official.... senior citizen, to more productive and creative paths. As my brother is wont to say... "Work smarter, not harder." I didn't know this full blown version of 'the deep think' was upon me until this morning. [Perhaps it was yesterday's snow that brought it on.] IMG_0130 I should have had an inkling however when I found myself downloading an app on my phone called 'HabitHub' and proceeded to outline a set of habits I want to adopt that spans across the next seven weeks. The phone and I by the way, are becoming fast friends. Not in a creepy, 'I can't take my eyes off it' sort of way, but I'm making it bring me wonderful things from all over the place. For instance, a few days ago, my Rabbi told us about this website called Sefaria. It contains an astonishing array of Jewish texts that you can read for free. It didn't take me long to discover they also  had a free app. I am now, through the wonders of technology, reading an ancient book that spans many volumes, that I could not afford to buy. . . for free. . . on this magical device that I can hold in one hand. Take a moment to think about that would you? Wow. Which brings me to the main point of this entry. Because of this re-organization of the micro and macro portions of my life right now, I feel the need to take a... HIATUS: 2a: an interruption in time or continuity : BREAK especially : a period when something (such as a program or activity) is suspended or interrupted. I asked Alexa to define it for me, but she talks too fast for me to transcribe, so I had to copy and paste from Webster's. I mean I KNOW what the word means, but I wanted to be precise in my language. Something that I learned from Jordan Peterson. You still need to read his book if you haven't gotten around to it yet. :-) Another reason for the break from blogging is that I obviously haven't been doing a very good job of it lately and that bothers me. So one of the subsets of subjects for 'deep thinking' will be this blog and how I intend to grapple with it in the coming year. So, we leave off in the not so imaginary world of Heartwood Cottage today with these truths: Our drought ameliorated by some very good rains, a respectable snowstorm under our belt, leaf and acorn wars well and truly handled, woodshed full, chicken run grass and clover field well established for overwintering, garden tucked in, and personal studies outlined for the extended foreseeable future. I hope you all have a happy and fulfilling holiday season [I will be lighting the first candle of Hannukah tonight!] and I hope to see you in 2019 with a fresh perspective, a renewed enthusiasm, and if the planets align, a more orderly mind. (Oh if only it could be true....) Dude, do not despair, miracles happen every day.....  :-)   lime-wild
