A Little Treasure
Fri Apr 08 2022

Today as I was walking out to set a sprinkler under the lilac bushes, I almost stepped on this beautiful Morel mushroom:

It's not a big one, but it was the most pristine morel I have ever picked. I took a bunch of pictures of it and then cut it in half.

What a marvel!

I soaked it in salt water in case there were any little bugs in it, but no, it was a very clean one. I just cooked it in a little butter and garlic and had two bites of deliciousness.

It's a pretty cool thing to be able to eat a bit of food from your front yard. Especially something as unexpected as this little morsel.

It's only one of three mushrooms I know how to identify after going mushroom hunting with an expert.

Here's a photo of it in my asparagus fern. I little artificial 'woodsy' portrait:

I love the morel mushroom, too. It is that time of year they are out.

I dream of someday going in search of morels. Someday.
