Keyboard Malfunctions
Wed Aug 14 2024

So here I am, all excited to post an entry, and for some bizarre reason, my computer keyboard decided to go belly up. I just ordered a new one that won’t be here till the weekend.

I’m also hoping to start a new diary more geared toward what I study in Torah.
But I certainly won’t be doing that trying to type on this iPad, I can tell you that!

I tried all the tricks to get my keyboard back up and running. But no luck. I had noticed over the last several days that the keys on the whole top row had ceased to function. It’s a mystery as to why. I’m very gentle with all my electronics. The font won’t stay set on this entry for some reason.
Maybe there are more gremlins afoot than just the ones in my keyboard 😳

Might not write much until the new one comes.
See you then.

I use iPad all the time I don’t have a actual laptop computer but this works for me, also my font keeps changing while I am typing usually when I make an error and auto correct does not use my chosen font.

Yes. That seems to be what mine was doing or if you choose a word from the suggestion list. Weird.

So, i went and played in my Sandbox trying to replicate your issues... when replacing words or re-enter after deleting, the font picks up as selected by me. HOWEVER: when you drop to the next paragraph, the font seems to be changing back to default Arial...I had this before with inserting things (images, links, etc) and I believe, Steve has fixed it then...So, to narrow down - can you both please try two tests with your fonts: - pick autocorrect suggestion on the same line of text - and do the same but after you moved onto next line/paragraph down I wonder if it's "insert" function autocorrect seems to be using, that defaults font to Arial...

But the keyboard itself is now not recognized by the system. I’ve tried all the usual restart and reinstall tricks. Believe me. I don’t give up easily 🤣

is it wireless one or usb? also, check if your laptop had windows updates recently and that was when the keyboard disconnected? I mean - yeas, it most likely is the keyboard thing, but also could be the other end?

well, I supposed, you already tried to plug it in with the wire to check if reconnects? Also - have you checked Bluetooth on your laptop in case it turned off accidentally? if you ever get it reconnected, - the top row keys can be reactivated by pressing Fn key (at the bottom of keyboard) and the same time - F key(s) again, I think, you already tried these :-)

Well, the top row is still not responding, but the keyboard is paired, and the most important aspect is working. So I still DO need that keyboard that's coming thank goodness. And YES, I'm taking this as a nudge to start the new diary! Heh heh....

try pressing Fn + a function key to see if that works. If so, try pressing Fn + Esc to reverse the need for the Fn Key with a function key If the above does not work for you, google "how to find an Action/Function key toggle" on your laptop and set that to Acton Keys...I am also not the one to give up easy, you know ;- )
