Outdoors in January
Sun Jan 19 2025

While much of the country is in a deep freeze, here we are having yo-yo weather. It's COLD at night... in the 20's, but in the daytime, the sun is blazing and it goes up to the 40's and even grazes the 50's. This has been going on for about 10 days or so.

I decided I had no excuses left, and I desperately wanted to be out in the fresh air, so I started raking leaves and sticks off the yard.

Because it IS January after all, and I haven't done yard work in quite some time, I'm only doing smallish sections at a time. I started here:

That was so satisfying, that I moved to this part of the yard the next day:

Today I tackled this area. It used to be part of Abby's dog run.

As you might notice, the ice pond has reverted to a meadow again, more's the pity. I miss it.

But my friends.... this is my true challenge. The leaves collect here every year. They are a foot deep near the fence. Just looking at it saps one's joie de vivre.

I call this 'the shade tax'. It must be paid every year. 🙄😫

And during the chilly mornings when the frost is still on the ground, I have been adding to the Zentangle project. Here's the latest section:

I'm having fun with this one. And boy, do we need some fun in the bleak days of winter....
