Ender's Game
Tue Dec 14 2004

Perhaps it's impossible to wear an identity without becoming what you pretend to be. [Ender]

I'm reading another novel of Orson Scott Card – the Ender’s Game. It was supposed to be the first one in sequel about the same hero, where Speaker For The Dead is the next one. But I deliberately choose to read Speaker first and have no regrets so far. I haven’t finished Ender’s Game yet, but so far it looks like this novel is about how to toughen one’s strength of mind and body. Basically, the main idea seems to be – Anything Is Possible. I don’t want to cast my opinion for the novel until I’ve read it till the end. But so far it is slightly depressing. A cruel battle for survival of the main hero. His despair from being helpless in the hands of Fate somehow helps him to gain all his survival skills...He is an Achiever...But instead of being inspired by his strength, can't help but feel sorry for him - he is SO Alone Big Time, faced with enemies, wherever he goes. I think, this makes him eventually - dispassionate. And to me that seems to be too big price to pay for self-perfection...

Accidents do happen…Some - for us to gain something, others – to lose...
Someone in my office “out of the blue” has offered me CD to listen. (Note, I DIDN’T ask for anything! I’ve actually, found, that it is usually not me finding the music, but music - finding its way to me, when it feels I need it)

Anyway, this CD found its way to me now. As usual, there were few songs that really touched me. And there was one particular that is playing in my headphones in a loop whole evening. Unfortunately, I can’t find lyrics to it… I’ve tried all the searches I know – no luck  …so if someone does know the lyrics, could they please kindly send it to me? The song called “Out Of This World” the artist – Chrissie Hynde and it is from this CD “Small World Big Band” of Jools Holland…

More on accidents. Today there’ve been a huge road accident on the Oxford’s Ring Road. 3 lorries involved. It happened at 4:30 am. Took me almost 2 hours instead of usual 30 min to get to work at about 8am and when I was leaving office, after 6pm, the road still hasn’t been reopened. More often we are reminded of how unsafe is what we chose as a means of getting from one place to another…Leaving home, one can never know, if they ever gonna make it to the end of journey...and that it could be – too late…for everything…

There are times when we need to be dispassionate, but being that way always, I agree, is a loss. A loss of one's humanity, I think.

I prefer passion, even though it might lead to heartbreak. "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger."

Chrissie Hynde has served as songwriter, guitarist, and lead singer of the Pretenders, the band she helped to found in 1978. Hynde established herself as a gifted songwriter with the top-selling single, “Brass in Pocket,” on the band's first release, The Pretenders (1980). Subsequent releases have produced “Middle of the Road”, “Show Me”, and “Back on the Chain Gang” (all three from 1984's Learning to Crawl), “Don't Get Me Wrong” (from 1986's Get Close) and “I'll Stand by You” (from Last of the Independents (1994). Two of the band's songs were featured in the motion picture G.I. Jane. Hynde resides with her husband, artist Lucha Brieva, in London, which the Akron, Ohio native has called home for more than twenty years.
