Egyptian Tale. The Scribe Who Wrote The Story Of Reality
Sat Apr 30 2005

His name is – Thoth. He is an unusual God. In a sense, that rather then being God’s son or being created by Ra, Thoth is known as he created himself through the power of language. Thoth considered to be a creator of magic, writing, medicine. He is a patron of knowledge and secrets.

Thoth often seen as a great counsellor and mediator. Just take the myths of the most famous Gods: Thoth was the one who helped Isis to make a spell to bring Osiris back from the dead. Thoth was the one who mediated between Horus and Seth in their eternal battle between good and evil. Thoth was the one who won a portion of the moon light from Khonsu and added five additional days in the calendar year. In the Afterlife it is Thoth who questions the souls of the dead about their deeds in life before their heart is weighed against the feather of Maat – the Goddess of Justice. (who is Thoth's wife, by the way - she wears the feather of Ostrich in her hair and use it to see if the heart of a man weighed down by his sins...does remind of something, doesn't it?)

Thoth often depicted as a man with the head of an ibis holding a scribe's palette and stylus. He was also shown as a full ibis, or sometimes as baboon.

As a magician, Thoth wrote a “Book of Thoth”, which would allow a person who read the sacred book to become the most powerful magician in the world, to understand the language of all the animals and to understand the nature of all the happenings in the world. Though the book seems to be rather deadly for those who allegedly tried to read it – there are numerous stories about how despite of finding out all the secrets of the Gods, men’s life become nothing but a pain and tragedy…There are many speculations about this book and the idea of finding it swirls inside many minds…But what if the book does exist and in reality posses such a power? Can you imagine what could happen, if it’ll get into the wrong hands?! I would prefer that nobody can ever read it, just in case…

Thoth's centre of worshiped was at Khmunu – Hermopolis – near Mynia. And that’s exactly why we wanted to see this place. Thoth as a character seems to me quite enigmatic. I’d imagine him as being discreet wise and compelling "someone". Someone, whom you can ask any question, even a stupid one, and he will always give an answer, no judging, no grudging…[~sigh]…or maybe I just want to know answers to my questions so much that see Thoth as my only hope?..LOL…:-)

Well, apparently, in the area of Khmunu they worshiped Thoth as the creator god, in Ibis form, who laid the World Egg. The sound of his song was thought to have created four frog gods and snake goddesses who continued Thoth's song, helping the sun journey across the sky…

Just imagine this beautiful symphony of the nature…everybody, join in into the chorus…
