Dead Day Of The Week
All the week has been such a busy week traffic-wise…I don’t know why all of a sudden all people in UK decided to hop into their cars all the same time at the same place, which happened to be exactly the time and place I normally use to get to work…so 17-miles driving transferred into hourandhalf hanging on the boring roads in company of bored fellow drivers…I think cars should be made illegal and we all should be forced to work from home. Or not to work at all, as this won’t make any changes in outsourced economy anyway.
It was like this all of the week and today the population has dramatically died out. And here we are speaking of Britain rejecting the European proposal on cutting legal working hours! We never do all those hours, we hold on to…by the end of each week the amount of workers rushing to their jobs noticeably decreases, I would say – twice each Friday, in proportion to the time that takes me to get to my office on those days.
And so today, driving the deserted road, enjoying the dull greyish morning as much as one possibly can enjoy dull grey morning, I was thinking of a “strange” nature of us, humans where we’d like to get everything while doing nothing…
And of course, it could also be the fact that it is Friday, the 13th today, isn’t it? Did you know that apparently, this is the only Friday 13th in this year?! The next Friday 13th will be only in January 2006…I think this justifies the reason for lunchtime visit to the pub, huh? ;-)
I’m not superstitious at all and Friday’s 13th syndrome amuses me only with the ways other people react to it. I was amazed to discover that there is a medical term for the condition of the people afflicted with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th. It is also one of those words that can cause fear by themselves too, by only trying to pronounce – Paraskevidekatriaphobics. In any case, if you google “Friday, 13th”, you might learn millions of bizarre facts that would have absolutely no sense and no use for you either…
Acceptance
We all want to be accepted the way we are. It is natural, as it reflects the principle of Self-Ego. As humans we naturally want to have everything without making too much effort. That’s understandable. And in a way – acceptable for we all have the rights, right? Why though this doesn’t always work in the society? Why people impose their expectations onto each other, and why while expecting from others to accept their ways, we do nothing to meet similar requirements of those others? Why acceptance should only be “one way”?
I always thought that ability to be flexible with people is the important part of relationships. But isn’t it contradicted with the demand to be unconditionally accepted by others?...To me personally - if you expect others to accept you the way you are, you must be either too arrogant or simply don’t care of anybody out there. Alternatively you might be too sure that they love you, as only in love we accept the others just the way they are…
Office Tribute To The Day
In the light of today’s being Friday the 13th, we decorated our office white board with the pictures of black cats and bloody knifes and had an entertaining discussion of the nature of the superstition in general and Friday 13th in particular. This is an illustration of how superstitions can affect the workload – perhaps, less of our users came to work today, thus reducing the risk of us being overloaded…In a way for us here Friday 13th is a lucky day then, huh?...On the other hand, Murphy’s Law teaches us:
If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something
Ageing
How weird it is that we live the first part of our life making mistakes which in turn makes us unable to enjoy life as it is. Then the rest part of our life instead of enjoying it finally, we start to live by memories of the mistakes we’ve made…
That's it for now. More to come if there would be any more thinking activities today
A Good Song For A Good Date
It is a final cut.
Thought I ought to bare my naked feelings
Thought I ought to tear the curtain down
I held the blade in trembling hands
prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
I never had the nerve to make the final cut...
I donno, but the song is the one for driving home today...
