Meltetts Of A Day
Mon Jun 20 2005

Hot Hot Hot…and Humid…and the kind of weather, like, you know, MeltedBrain Weather. That’s what we had for the last two days…And so due to complete melteness of any melted thought that melted into the melting heat, instead of full-format entry and not even one, perhaps, this is going to be a brief “meltetts” of The Few Last Days…

...Watched with envy how on Saturday, next door kids were splashing in outdoor pool. There is absolutely no way to survive in energetic state in such a heat, other then soaking in the water, like a whale…On Saturday I wished I was a kid again [~sigh]

...It was so hot, that when we washed the car, the water dried out before we managed to wipe it off with a dry cloth…leaving milky watermarks all over the bodywork…not nice – my stylish Mondi-boy was looking like a chicken poxed tin can…

Hmmm…did I mention that it was very hot over weekend here?

Funny though, that when driving to work this morning I’ve heard on the radio news that apparently it was…flooding in England ?! At first I thought it was a joke of my favourite joker Terry Wogan…but arrived into office, checked BBC news site – oh, indeed, some areas in Yorkshire have been terrible flooded!!! WOW…sometimes reading news makes me think, that perhaps, I accidently managed to live in another England, different from the one, all the news coming from. I remember it happened some time ago too, when my parents saw on their news that there are serious floods in UK, so they called us, dead worried. Their call made me to go and check it on the websites, as here in this Forgotten Land there was not a single drop! And that’s how I found out about almost national disaster in England, resulting in a large number of people having lost their cars, houses, possessions…[~thanks god, there is such thing as telephone and such people as your parents, who watch our news for us]

...Our guests from Russia arrived – they will stay with us for the next few weeks. Lots of visiting places, long night talks – so much to share! It is funny how we only get to see places around us, when entertaining those who come to see those places. Even though we do live in a close distance from quite a few famous landmarks, we normally would not just jump into the car and go there…but at least now I’ll get my share of history and culture. Looking forward for a few pleasant days out around UK. Starting tonight from…Stonehenge Summer Solstice Celebration! Yep, we ARE going there for the whole night, and yes, I’m confident it will be a night to remember, as well as the next day – to sleep away :-p

...Yesterday I went to meet them from the airport. It was a terrible day – driving 2 hours in +33 heat on a busy motorway is not the best way to spend your Sunday. And there was also delay in the immigration control for arrivals, as Sundays are such a busy days for flights here. I think, they’ve spent 3 hours in flight itself and another 2.5 in passing all formalities and collecting luggage after arrival! Sometimes you wonder how more bureaucratic the system can be…

...I like the airport’s life…I like watching people departing, arriving, saying goodbyes and meeting with hugs…I did plenty of watching yesterday awaiting for my own share of hugs. After a while you learn to guess which country new crowd arrived from…by their clothing, their manner of walking, the design of their suitcases, attitude…I played a guessing game of imagining those people in their normal life, as oppose to holiday life...how they behave, what they like to do, whom do they live with, which pets they might have...

It is so interesting…People do behave differently when taken out of their context, and in airport you can watch this happening in real time. I wonder how do I change when I go somewhere in other lands…Of course I don’t notice it myself, but I’m sure that on holidays I’m not the same as in the office daily…Now that’s an interesting question: are we more ourselves when we relaxed on holidays or when we in familiar environment in the office? Which one is more “us”?

Today is much better in terms of weather - not the same hot and I even thinking of putting a bet that it won’t be rain overnight to spoil our fantastic adventure in the stone circle.

I love the energy of airports! I like watching people at the airport because their emotions are so much closer to the surface... people are nervous, excited, sad, distracted... I try to guess who is going where and under what circumstances. I pass my time waiting at airports making up stories about all the other people waiting around me!...lol. I hope all is well with you,

It is true that one never sightseers unless entertaining guests from out of town. We come to take our sites as always there so no big deal..
I remember in Denver when my roommates sister came up and made such a big deal of the sites.. zoo, park, mint, brewery, mts..
I was scratching my head wondering if she came from someplace where they didn't have those things??
and I chose rather to show her things like unsinkable molly brown's house.. (survivor of Titanic) and a bar comic show.. that always made me laugh until I almost got sick! and the baseball game in a real official field.. mine-high stadium where all the batters seem to be able to hit the ball over the wall!!! must be the thin air or something.
Anyway. Good for you catching up with friends ! and showing the sites.. Enjoy it :/
wish I could visit.. heat or not. I'd l0VE To visit the birthplace of the Beatles..
    :P
(sorry I ramble on and on and on)
