Well, despite of the weird start, the rest of my week happened in a normal routine mode. “As usual” I paid a visit to dentist, “as usual” I celebrated autumn equinox and stared at the moon in the middle of a night, “as usual” not one, but three of my servers were playing “hit me, I’m a dead server” game, “as usual” lost friends reached out after a long silence time, and “as usual” I went to bed before midnight yesterday (?!)…as you see, pretty “normal” week it was…hmmmm…yes…I suppose that there is no such thing as “supernatural” happenings. One can make any happening sound like a supernatural, if they really wish to…it is not that I would lie in saying “something strange has happened to me”, it is mainly that I can tell ordinary things in a way, that makes them brighter, makes us notice them, makes see them as Somethings rather then Unnoticed Nothings. It’s all down to perception isn’t it? Kids are very good at it – they see World as a Wonder with their eyes opened wide…why do they grow up and become a pessimists and sceptics?...[~sighs]
So, few leftover thoughts of this week:
Re-Evaluation.
Life is really just a collection of nice surprises separated from each other by few routine inconveniences…
I’ve mentioned not once already my favourite café in the centre of Oxford. I visit it quite often, as often as I can get in town centre (my office is on outskirts, so this not an everyday’s treat) Anyway, about this café. Two years ago, when I’ve discovered it for the first time, I made this note in my diary:
21 Feb 2003 - Just Another Place...
…Had spare time for coffee - found that cafe on St Giles. Something interesting about it:
In early morning hour this place looked so fantastic! It had that “aura” around – you don’t want to leave, you just can’t leave. I’ve been sitting there with my cup of coffee, listening to the soft tranquil music, and thinking about nothing…and felt how nothing really matters, no outside world exists any more…amazing morning, unbelievable place…
Ever since I enjoyed the little place every now and then…then, about last year, the place changed the owners and it was no longer that nice. Was just “ok” for occasional “grabthemeal”…well, yesterday I went there again after quite a long period. And apparently there were again – new owners – a nice young couple. And the place transformed fantastically! It is even more better now then it used to be in the first place. They’ve re-decorated it, brought in new furniture – cosy sofas and padded chairs…new menu and just about everything is so refreshing and so nice…I’ve evaluated its place on my Top Ten Favourite Places In Oxford.
Migratory Bird Backwards
I am like a bird, only “backwards”. Normal birds would be all excited and active in the spring time and packing their bags to fly away in the autumn. I’m – all opposite – in the spring I feel that sudden urge to go places, to get out of my home, area, country…and in Autumn time I am all curled up into the chair, wraped in blankets and categorically refuse to move…
Bring All Your Cars To Work Day
That was Thursday. Officially declared “leave your car at home day” and Oxford participated in European “withoutcar” day for the first time. They organised bus tickets reduced twice for this day, free park&ride, free lunch served on central street and bike race led by the mayor at lunch time. It was supposed to be a promotion of what the city would be without its horrible traffic jams. I took my camera to work hoping to take historical shots of a transformed city. Guess what – there was even heavier traffic on that day! As if people read the message backwards and tried to do their best to pollute even more…Completely embarrassing fiasco. And it was such a cool idea in its origin.
