Stutter. Can You Help?
Mon Oct 24 2005

To the question of advice...

I’m actually going to ask your advice right now… friends of mine have got this problem - their little boy stutters…and of course he's very embarrassed in front of his classmates at primary school…He is One Very Upset Little Boy...Of course there are millions ways of dealing with stutter, as well as maybe thousands ways of treating it. I can certainly help my friend to find a lot of info on the web, but I just wonder :
if any of you do know something from the real life situation and willing to share any useful information/ link/ referral?

CAN YOU HELP PLEASE?

Sometimes when we're in the middle of the situation it is difficult to objectively appreciate the entire situation... despite the fact that we have (seemingly) unlimited access to our own thoughts/memories/experiences/feelings about the problem. Or it could be that a satisfactory solution is far simpler than we would have thought.

My best friend growning up, her brother stutterd. He went to a speach therapist, it really is the only way to full deal with this. That was 20 years ago, he's married happy and stutters only when he gets nervous.

Advice is wonderful. And from someone like you, it's even better.

    That said;

My brother used to stutter, not badly, but bad enough that he was ashamed...

My mother made sentances for him that were just a little hard, and we'd practice saying them... even us kids without stutters... And once he got those, she'd slowly make them harder until he felt confident to do any combination of words.

I agree, the only one to effectively treat stuttering would be a licensed speech-language pathologist, or whatever they would call the equivalent in your region of the world. They would likely have some sort of licensing/regulatory board which would be the starting place for finding info on what is involved in treatment and how to get a referral.

I have worked collaboratively with S-LP's with kids who stutter. My part of treatment involved treating any anxiety that may have been contributing to the problem, but it was the S-LP who had allt he tricks for the language component of the problem. Hoep that helps!

    RYC: Yes, youre right.
If I could live my life over again I believe I would do everything the same.
My mom once told me that its not gentics that make you who you are, its how you live your life that makes you the person you are.~smiles~

RYC: Here is a link to a test that I had to take when I was going to school for Human Resources. It is actually pretty interesting.
It explains what the NF stands for.
I believe it stands for intuitive/feeling.
    Heres the link....
