Autopsy. Life And Death.
This week Channel4 presented shocking new series – a scientific-educational presentation of human body and its functions through…autopsy. Yes, real life TV coverage of the famous lectures of controversial Professor Gunther von Hagens. I shall not go into explaining who the hell he is – just take a look and make your own opinion of the man. There were 4 programms shown, explaining in the most detailed fashion how human body works. Including the human dissection. Although I watched the programms with my eyes closed for at least third of programm's duration, I still watched them, and I mean – not forcing myself to watch, but because they were telling things that really matters, things you never learn at school, things I believe everybody should be aware of (such as how various diseases occur, what’s going on inside our bodies when we sick, when we die) I must stress that their presentation level was absolutely brilliant! Very easy to understand, very graphical, not your boring med school lecture with the body sliced into pieces. Gunther von Hagens is The Entertainer. A very professional one. And absolutely charming too. When you watch him, it is impossible not to like him. Reminded me of that crazy professor-genius, who would amuse you first with his remarkable work and then use you for his next experiment.
Traffic Thoughts
Sitting in a traffic this morning, watching fellow drivers turning nervous, sweating and swearing at innocent road companions (there was an accident on my way , so the 17miles trip took “only” 1.30 hours [~shrugs] no big deal, I had my music with me) So watching those with inability to be in control of the self, I’ve imagined if this could be a model of real life. There are situations when although you involved into them deeply (as in there is no u-turn on a highway road), but you can do absolutely nothing about it, but wait until the situation resolved by itself. So what is the point of getting emotional behind the steering wheel? Why bother with impatient honking, if you know there is a road block ahead, hence nobody moves?! Like in general life, isn’t it better just to relax, be cool about it, not to think about possible consequences of getting late to work, etc. and try to make the best you can with the idle time accidentally dropped on your laps. I’ve been listening to the music this morning. A lot. I enjoyed it. :-)
Music and emotions.
It is a known fact that music creates emotional atmosphere, yes? We cry with the blues, dance with the waltz, dream with the sounds of the strings...It seems strange to me that it works in opposite direction as well. When we are in certain mood, we tend to listen to the same reflection in music. I mean – when we feel blue, we do not tune to the sounds of marches or happy accordions…why is that when we listen to the music, our mood tunes into her, but when we already have got certain mood, we listen only to the songs that reflect it?...oh, maybe it’s only works for me this way? Does anyone use contrast music to change their moods?
Cynical / sceptical / sarcastic
To the comment in one of my previous entries: apart from being technically different words, those three words have different “attitude” in them, don’t they?
While being cynical is relatively harmless to society (cynicism is “belief” in self-interest as primary motive for human conduct) Being sceptical has an effect of “de-motivation” – an attitude of systematic doubt in the result. Sarcasm is an offence - ironic language that is usually directed against an individual. That’s how I see the difference.
I think, that’s enough of Friday’s babble…have a nice weekend, everyone! And don't forget to smile
