My Piece Of New York
Tue Nov 14 2006

OK...let's get it rolling...
First of all I want to make The Point: in no way I'm pretending I'm writing about real New York. The thing is...I haven't seen it. I mean - I haven't seen the real city, haven't seen it in a way like those who live there see in every day, I haven't run along its streets in rush hour, I didn't experienced squashed&edgy ride on the tube, I haven't been shouted at, pushed off, stomp at or mugged. I didn't experience how it is to live in New York. However, I've seen it from another side and maybe even not every New Yorker has ever seen it this way. What I will share here is My Very Own Piece Of New York, how I saw him, how I felt him and what he left in my heart.

I had 6 days to spend and there was no chance of wandering random streets with no apparent aim. All I did was pretty much touristy and who can blame me for doing that? For the person who comes to New York first time in their life it should be pretty natural to go round all the well-famous places, not just because "everyone does it", but for these places are famous for a reason, aren't they?...What I will say here is my very own opinion, not necessary the same as anyone else’s, so don't bother to shout: "that's not true and we are not like this" because what I will tell is true to me and is the way it was in my eyes.
A traveller’s perspective...
The other thing I want to mention before I start the story: It saddens me that so many people here when think of New York, think of great shopping opportunity…So many travel agencies sell “weekend shopping break in New York”…Big Apple becomes a commercial golden fruit and all the great history and meaning of him gets swiped under the red carpets and stomped by celebrity’s feet …I think it is truly a blasphemy to go to New York just for shopping. But anyway…I better start from the beginning…

The flight was delayed for 4 hours…the service of Virgin Atlantic left sour taste of not-so-clean cabin and not-so-polite wonderful crew…(note to myself: never ever book a flight with VA!) instead of early evening I arrived just after midnight, after 20 hours of airport-airplane gypsy-style life…apart from inadvertent booking my holiday for the busiest Marathon Week, I also accidentally managed to book my flight for the day of the summer time change…I guess, that just to add some challenge to my otherwise “uneventful” adventure...Well, America turned out to be quite civilised and there was no shortage of helpful taxies in Newark Liberty International ;-) maybe it was for the better that I arrived dead tired, nervous as well as in the dark, so it didn’t bothered me at all how my hotel looked like…it appeared to be a nice hotel though and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who look for inexpensive place in a convenient location. The best qualities of it: was clean, was decent and has The Best Bagel Buffet in the world just around the corner. I stayed in New Jersey. Just before the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel. The bus to the Port Authority takes around 20 min. And there of course you are already right in the middle of everything! And rest assured everything was what I intended to see...

New York, Chapter Two is imminent? Don't delay too long. Patience is not one of my virtues.
