This was meant to be a comment elsewhere, but when I finished, it no longer looked as a response to somebody’s thoughts, but more of tossing of my own. It was not fair to abuse another’s space with something that does not offer support, so I’m gonna break my rules and share my views on religion. It is my space after all. Logical comments are welcome, others – do not bother, as I do not intend to run an open debate here.

As an outsider to any religion, I am always amused by the fight between different denominations over such a petty issues as how to call their God and who was Jesus. Look at any main religion they all agree that there is One God and that he supplied humanity with some set of rules to guide them through life. Isn’t it strange that instead of uniting to show an example of the Great Power of God, they are bickering like housewives at the Sunday market?

In the end of a day the commandments in Christianity are the only foundations ever being more or less adopted by everyone in a form of morale. And if you wish to think of them as of a God’s Instructions, that’s fine. And if I want to see them as a common sense, that allows human beings co-exist together, that’s ok as well. I would not tell you to stop believing in your God, but only ask to live by these principles.

Why religious folks keep picking up the least verified statements to argue about, but leave aside the only things that everybody agreed with. That puzzles my mind. And frankly, that doesn’t feel an earnestly when you promote your own belief by abusing another. Does it really matter if someone prays differently or has diverse view on the life after death? Makes no difference to me, as long as they honour their parents, do not steal, do not kill and love me, as their neighbour. I think trying to provide guidance to the others should not be because you think that you are better but because you think that they are worth it.

You speak of the commandments in Christianity. Do you mean the Ten? Stole 'em from Judaism. See Exodus 20.

Well, not exactly stole. Inherited is a better word, to be accurate about it. ;)

OK, here's how I feel about the whole religion thing: You do your thing, I'll do mine, and we all make nice.

    Shalom

i don't go for any organized religion but see the similarities and basic good precepts. <for lack of better though word at present time> that all religions are based on..
NOt all.. actually cuz there are the real old earth bound religions.. that are not based on rules at all, but on sympathetic agreements....
