Some New Features...
Mon Mar 10 2025

I've been wanting to introduce some new features for a while because nobody wants to stagnate... So, here's the first in a while - but more to come sooner rather than later in future!

  • It is now possible to 'unfollow' a diarist directly from the New Entry e-mail notification. If your e-mail client supports it, there will be a button somewhere (which is unique to each e-mail client) which will say something like 'This e-mail is from a mailing list -- Unsubscribe'. Clicking the unsubscribe button will directly 'Unfollow' the diarist with no interaction required from you. However, if you decide you changed your mind you will need to login to DD, choose their diary and re-click the Bell Icon.

  • Settings Menu

The Settings menu has returned for logged in users. This is because I've added some new settings which don't align well with a 'Profile' menu and needed their own spot. As a result, the diaries you follow has re-migrated to be under the Settings menu again too. The menu is in the drop down at the top right of the screen.
  • On the settings menu are presently the diaries you follow, and another screen which allows you to turn off certain notifications. Presently these are to turn off;
1/ Any New Comment e-mails. That is, if anyone leaves a comment on ANY of your diaries, you will not be notified.
2/ Any Comment Reply e-mails. That is, if anyone replies to a comment on someone elses diary on which you have already left a comment, you will not receive an e-mail.
3/ New Follower Notifications. That is, when you get new followers on your diary, you won't receive an e-mail to let you know. This will work hand in hand potentially with the next new feature...
  • New followers can now be auto-accepted...

What does this mean? Well, prior to this update, if you received new followers they were not allowed to read your entries, nor would they be notified about your updates until you went to the appropriate screen to authorise them. But for many people, there's no need for this security step since their diaries are public anyway with no followers only entries. So if you don't need to control who follows your diary, you now have the option. Which means, you may not need to know when you have new followers. Or, you might want to anyway.

Switch on/off some system e-mails

Enable auto acceptance for new followers

Do be aware that the auto-acceptance of new followers is a per diary option. To find this screen you'll need to click the little Cog icon when on your diary homepage, or on an entry on your diary.

So, if your diary only has public entries and you're not fussed who gets e-mailed when you update, you can set this switch on and forget about it. If you DO have followers only entries you probably want to leave this switch off so that you can vet new followers before allowing them to read your followers only entries!

Of course, for private entries it doesn't matter because only you can read them anyway.

I'll be adding some more options to comments in due course to enable you to hide or delete them, and to block users from commenting altogether. Watch this space.

Any comments, feedback, questions - as always, drop me a comment or use the contact form 😅

I'm going to have to poke around now and check all this out. I'm not getting email notifies for everyone I'm following. I got yours, but not KSmiley or Wrenchman today...

There was a brief window where DD and Moozemail were out of alignment as some changes needed to be made to both to support the one click unsubscribe. Initially the notify for this entry didn't go which was when I realised... I didn't notice other updates happen during that time but it could've been that. Keep your eyes peeled and I'll do the same and if it happens again I'll investigate further.

Just to add to this, it's possible that Little Krissi and Wrenchman haven't authorised your follower request and so the system won't send notifications. Give them a prod and ask them :)
