Crazed Hummingbirds
Wed Nov 27 2002

It’s November in California. I’m sitting on my back patio in the porch swing with the sun on my back. The air has been scrubbed clean by yesterday’s brisk winds and the temperature is probably 65 degrees. I’m too lazy to get up and peer at the frog thermometer on the fence, so 65 is my best guess.

Now I won’t lie to you, it’s pleasant out here. There is a slight breeze blowing, my dog Robbie is snoozing on the rug in front of the back door and the cat is looking out at me wanting to join us. Just a minute, I’m going to let him out….. Okay, uh oh, now he thinks he wants back inside. Oy. He is afraid most of the time outside in the daytime ever since the two crazed hummingbirds dive bombed him last summer. He has never gotten over it poor thing.

Anyway, I was out here thinking that this is all very nice, but I REALLY would rather have a little snow on the ground and a menacing dark gray sky overhead. This would make baking pies and turkey an easier job. Not to mention consuming mulled cider and carrot cake ! I guess we will just have to make the best of it. ;-)

Baked your pies yet ? I’m breaking with tradition this year and making lemon cream pie. Just because I am the Chief Cook, the Kitchen Queen, the Dietary Dictator, the Culinary Curmudgeon, the Menu Maven, the Omnipotent Omnivore !

That’s enough of that….

I would like to send special Thanksgiving greetings to those of you who know where French Creek, Pig Alley and Shackleford Falls are located. You KNOW who you are ! :-)
