Delivering the Mother
Wed Feb 12 2003

I have delivered the Mother into the hands of the Greyhound Bus Company – “Leave the Driving to Us”. I took the Pragmatist’s advice and actually brought the car to a complete stop before letting her out. We stopped in the Taxi zone and I was prepared to argue with any official who objected on the grounds that there are only 4 parking spaces in front of a busy bus station in a major city. But no such confrontation was necessary thank goodness.

With her departure however, all my great excuses for lounging about, shopping and going out to lunch have gone with her. Back to the laundry and vacuuming. Sigh.

But hey, I don’t have to dust, because in a fit of boredom one day when I was off on an errand, she dusted my house for me. It needed it too. It’s one of my least favorite chores for some obscure reason. Perhaps the FUTILITY of it ! Anyway, back to the salt mines.

Bye Mom !

What a lovely thing for Mom to do. Or maybe she just couldn't stand to see the dust gathering and making dust bunnies.

You hate dusting? I hate housework! My kitchen floor is so badly in need of scrubbing I'm almost afraid to walk in there. Well, when my shoes start sticking, I guess I'll do something about it.

You must know that the empty space at the taxi stand was waiting just for you. It doesn't happen for everybody, but sometimes a space just opens up in time for a special person to get out of a car, get her luggage, and get to the sidewalk safely. You knew that, didn't you?

    Shalom
