Where shall I go, what shall I do?
Thu Mar 20 2003

I called my mother today because I was feeling anxious about current events.
Everyone should call their mother, if they can. It will make you feel better.

She is having a bout of laryngitis and could hardly talk, but this did not stop her from trying. . . We discussed our fears about the war, even the real scary ones. And we discussed our coping mechanisms.

Mine seem to be touching base with family members, and planting flowers and plants. Flowers and basil yesterday, and I am transplanting tomatoes into bigger containers today. Hers boiled down to the Scarlett O’Hara strategy.

“I can’t think about that today, I’ll think about that tomorrow.”

“Yeah, I told her, but you WILL be thinking about it tomorrow.”

Me, I am surrounded by bottles of water. I found several empty containers and filled them this morning. I have put the water filled Cherry 7 Up bottle here by my computer, it makes me feel better. Kind of like an aluminum foil hat. I just hope my water is not contaminated. (If you haven’t seen “Signs”, you MUST rent it, I mean it now, watch the movie.)

I keep hearing reports about the Iraqi soldiers already getting ready to surrender. But it’s the Butcher that I worry about. He may do something really awful. This is what was keeping me awake last night. While I am not so worried about myself, I AM worried about our troops and the citizens of Baghdad. I worry that Saddam might decide to take them all with him to Allah. The guy is a whack job. Hopefully somebody will take care of him before he can do anything horrific.

I have to go take care of my tomato seedlings now. They are getting anemic in their little peat balls, they need room for their feet. Too bad Saddam isn’t interesting in gardening instead of being the “supreme leader”. He’d look good in a straw had with a shovel in this hands, nice pair of overalls, whaddaya think ? We could call him Mr. Mean Jeans. (anybody remember Captain Kangaroo's favorite side kick?) But I’ll bet he would want to plant things like Venus Fly Traps or something even more sinister.

I have to laugh, or I am going to cry.

I think Saddam would look great in a striped suit (horizontal stripes, that is), making little ones out of big ones at Ft. Leavenworth. And that goes for his sons, too.

    Shalom

Mr. Mean Jeans! That's a scream! Today is a day that I didn't think I would laugh. Thank you for making me wrong.
