Pin Head
Wed Jun 25 2003

What I accomplished at work today could be neatly arranged, double spaced, and wide margined. . . on the head of the pin. I'm in that awkward place as a temporary person, where I am probably way more trouble than I'm worth.

It takes time to tell me what to do, show me how it's done, and check my work when it's finished. It's the kind of workplace that has dozens of small details, each with its protocol and attending computer procedures that keep it from going smoothly. However, the person I'm working for is trying really hard to keep me busy. It's just they get called into the frenzy of what's going on just outside the door. And many times, that means I sit with a paper in my hand waiting to be told what to do with it. (In a nice way of course). But watching the wheels moving so exceedingly slow, it's a miracle that things ever get done!

Me -- I'm going to bed, but not before I pause to say a word of thanks to God. I'm thankful for this job -- and I'm thankful that on a certain day in August -- it will be finished :-)

    Missed you tonight.

That's the trouble with being a temp. You're always brand new, and when you begin to get the feel of things, the job is over.

However, one of the best jobs I ever had--in terms of salary and position--I got by hiring in as a temp. When my particular position came open, I was recommended by the person who hired me as a temp. And I finally retired from that company after eight years. But I was looking for a permanent, well paying job, and temping was the way to get my foot in the door.

    You're a smart cookie. You'll do OK.

    Shalom

i hope they learn the brilliance of your talents very soon and put them to good use :)

Once you get the hang of things I'll be very surprised if they don't find you indispensable!

Well, at least you can add recent experience to your resume. Hope the sleep was delicious. ;-)
