Robbie's Dog Days
Thu Jul 10 2003

Our Robbie is a little under the weather, poor dog. He has only eaten a handful in the last 2 days. I coaxed him into eating a little cottage cheese this morning. He seems a little down over all – a little slow and tired. I’m beginning to think he doesn’t like being left alone all day while I’m at work. He has the garage and the whole back yard to wander in, so at least he is not cooped up in the house or anything.

It’s so hard to read animals. So often you wish they could talk to you and tell you what’s the matter. As it is though we just have to guess.
I felt very bad leaving him this morning and gave him a little dog biscuit in his food bowl in case he changes his mind about eating later on in the day.

My garden is showing signs of neglect also. The overall effect of coming home to a melancholy dog and a garden calling out for a good trimming and weeding is not a very happy thing.

It’s hard to do any one thing well when you have too much to do. No wonder people are the way they are these days. We just have too much to do.

Update:
Robbie had a little of my leftover soup for his dinner and drank some water after I put ice cubes in it and sat down with him and suggested it would make him feel better. He seems a bit perkier than he did this morning. Thank goodness.

I hope that Robbie is doing better by now. You don't know how many times I have said that I wish Duke could talk to me. I feel that I understand him well, it would be so much easier if he could talk. Duke hates to be alone, he wants to be with me, and go with me every minute of the day. He also likes his water with ice cubes lol. I have asked my neighbors to stop feeding him bones and such and just give him an ice cube. He just ran inside with an ice cube in his mouth so I guess it is working.

Re Ozone's comment about Duke: I used to have a dog that begged I mean BEGGED for ice cubes. She was peculiar in other ways, too.

I hope Robbie perks up. He's such a nice boy. I got Miki for company for Squinchie because he was so lonely after I moved him away from his buddies. Worked out very nicely, but I suppose Robbie really prefers his humans to another dog. Can he hold out for another month?

Poor you, poor garden, after all the work you put in. Well, all you can do is the best you can do. And hope for the best.

    Shalom

I think Robbie's lack of appetite and malaise may be due to the extreemly high temperatures we are having around here just now. He's not a puppy anymore, and he's used to being able to come into the house and cool off when he wants. Does Robbie like to swim? My Labrador (and my friend's Weimeraner) really appreciates having a little hard plastic swimming pool in the summer months, maybe Robbie would, too. Oh and Lucky and Porsche both adore ice!

I hope your dog is okay, but maybe he's just lonely. ;-)

Dear Heart! You never mentioned that Robbie is feeling so under the weather/lonely on our morning walks! (Okay, I know that we have such a short time and you must figure I am reading your diary religiously everyday *I try but doesn't happen*) What can I do for him during the day while you are away at the hospital? He is such a sweet boy. Just let e know.
