Word Count Wars
Tue Nov 25 2003

Okay, I'm obsessed.

I wrote a BUNCH on the NaNo Novel today.

My word count stands at 45,227.

My goal is to finish it tomorrow.

Well, to finish the word count for the Challenge.

The story won't be finished, but my obsession will!

I mean I have other things to do around here besides sit slumped over the computer with crabbed fingers clacking out as many words as possible in a day.

I will be happy to write about frivolous things for a while. I hope my poor brain isn't so fried I have forgotten how to make a good pun.

I guess it's every writer's nightmare, thinking you are going to wake up one day and not have one clever or interesting thing to say. Or that you have used up your alloted words for this lifetime and from now on will have to rely on sign language or smoke signals. Although sign language has much to recommend it. Very expressive. But not on paper!

Well, I ramble.

Maybe it's true.... maybe I have used up my intelligable words for the day...

Oh my!

I bet it's good to see the light at the end of the tunnel, isn't it? I wonder if you'll miss any of it when your are through, considering it's your first novel. There's always something different about the first time.
    God Bless......P~~~

You can do it, go Yetz go! I shall make you some semiphore signals although I'd have to buy the Hubble telescope to see your thoughts from here, so here's hoping you do have more coherent thoughts in you!

Hit 50,000, take a deep breath, and pop back into the normal world. You can do it, girl. I still see some semblance of the "normal" Yetz.

Hope you have a nice, snowy Thanksgiving.

    Shalom

Wouldn't it be terrible if you reached 49,999 words and your computer exploded? I have dreams about stuff like that.

You don't have much to go. Will you be at all disappointed when you're all finished?

That's just terrific. I knew you could do it. Here's to tomorrow. ;-)

Don't worry about running out of words or losing your wit. I know that can never happen with you. Go for it. ;-)

I just heard a snippet of an interview wth Stephen King, who says this latest is probably his last book. He thinks he's probably said everything there is to say in his head and he can't believe there will be any more story ideas. He also said he doesn't feel bad about that; I guess he figures he's got enough money etc. I personally don't believe him. A writer is a writer just as sure as Aristotle's "A" will always be "A". There never dawns a day when a real writer doesn't once think, "Hmmm... Wouldn't it be interesting if...?" and it becomes impossible not to put the idea down on paper.

Never fear. The ideas will always be there. I used to have a favorite quotation (although I can't remember now whose): "Write it, damn you, write it; what else are you good for?"
