Wrap It Up Why Don't You?
Fri Dec 05 2003

I’m sitting here at my computer desk, surrounded by unfinishedness.

My story boards are staring me in the face from my novel. I have written another 3 or 4 thousand words on it and probably have that much and more to go to finish up the story. I am aghast at how quickly I stopped writing once the deadline and the 50,000 word count was reached!

But I have a goal of finishing before the end of this month and I am holding myself to it. I found out that I just can’t write all day long. It’s too taxing to my puny brain. Any more than about 4 hours and I start writing crap….. to put it mildly.

And looming on the horizon are all kinds of other little things I want to write that are not as long and involved. Playful little things that seem so much more attractive than completing my book. I am keeping a list of those ideas so they don’t float away into oblivion. They look like the dessert I can’t have until I finish my dinner.

I have been pretty good today and after I dictate the next chapter into Dragon that I wrote out by hand, I will have done two chapters in one day.

It’s an interesting process. Much like drawing. You have to be able to slow down and deal with the details. Otherwise all you get is a stick figure. And let me tell you, not many people are inspired by stick figures.

It’s gray here today and once in a while a drop of rain falls. I’m making chili for dinner. The house smells like a southwestern cookhouse!

I should have one of those triangle things to clang when dinner is ready.

I should also shut up and get to work.

I think you are doing a fantastic job on the writing, keep up the good work!

LOL at the triangle thing. We had a bell with a chain my dad would pull when it was dinner time growing up. I've got to get one of those for our house. *smile*

When time is short, I have dessert first. Now isn't that pragmatic??

I trust you got the cookie mess cleaned up; otherwise, you wouldn't be sitting in front of your computer surrounded by unfinishedness.

I know exactly what you mean about the writing getting slower after you hit the 50K goal. So far, I've only managed an additional 11,000 words since I hit 50K on Nov. 22. Talk about writing slowly! *sigh*

Good luck finishing your story. I'm right there with you! Then it's on to my favorite part -- editing! Can't wait!

Lol, yeah, motivation is such a weird thing. You mean a triangle? I'm sure your dinner will be delicious. ;-)
