Too Much of a Good Thing
Mon Mar 29 2004

Well, Pirates of the Caribbean was a hoot.
Johnny Depp was weirdly fascinating. And a good time was had by all. Only complaint is that the movie was 15 minutes too long. I think at some point some producer says to the director..... "Listen Syd, we've spent a fortune, I repeat a fortune on these sets and special effects. We want more screen time for all the cool stuff we made, you get me?"

And Syd falls for it.

Then we have to watch 15 minutes more of something than is good for the story.

(It's a pet peeve of mine)

I should hire myself out for a king's ransom to tell the moviemakers when they have crossed the "golden story line" boundary. I'll have them quaking in their boots at what I am going to say next. I won't be swayed by anyone, and I won't take bribes. I want my own trailer and personal chef too. And I only drink "Calistoga" spring water, with ice made from filtered water. And if there are horses in the film, I get to go riding with the leading man every day. Twice a day if it is Tom Selleck.

"Makeup!"

I do love you! I'm glad you enjoyed Pirates, I have to admit I thought the same thing about the length but for the time that Johnny Depp was onscreen I was completely captivated.

    Now bring me that horizon,
    Rachel
PS Can I be your PA when you make Hollywood execs tremble?

Funny you'd say that: my riding instructor is completely impressed with Tom Selleck's riding. She thinks he's one of the best in Hollywood. Go get 'em!

We loved the movie too...Johnny Depp is a odd man, but entertaining nonetheless.

Tom oh, Tom I've been drooling over him since Magnum. I dated a guy who looked like his twin once, but that's where the similarities ended. He was as dumb as a post and I just couldn't go only any longer even if he did make me melt when he kissed me. Tis a shame I couldn't be shallower. I still see him every now and then, he's still lip smacking handsome.

Riding lessons are fun and useful, if you are into it as a sport rather than recreational trail riding and such. Around here it is so suburbanized and urbanized, it's hard to find land to have a backyard horse unless you're rich or in the major boonies (no jobs, 2 hour commutes). In order to make the most of it, we "poor" people generally get into it via lessons. Good for safety's sake if you didn't grow up around them. Is Sandy still around? It's a shame how people treat these sweet creatures...

My favorite example of exceeding the Golden Line rule is Speilburg's "A.I.".

What *was* he thinking with that entire last section of the film??????
