Why Does That Tea Smell of Lavender?
Tue Jun 29 2004

It's Monday here.

I'm trying to straighten up from our weekend sloth.

Newspapers lay in piles here and there, dirty dishes dry out and crust over on the counter, small piles of abandoned work clothes cover the chairs and detritus from a TV project all await my attention.

Hub man moved a shelf that our TV rests on up about 8 or 9 inches, giving us more storage space underneath for videos and what not. I hide the whole mess with a spring rod and blue flannel curtain. (VERY shabby chic). Anyway, there's sawdust on the rug where he drilled new holes for the shelves. So I have the vacuum cleaners.... (both of them) out in the living room, so that if anyone comes by, they will see that I am about to get to this project any minute.

Never mind that I have spent the morning writing a weblog review and catching up on emails and diary reading. What they don't know won't hurt them. I am the mistress of my domain. I will vacuum when I am ready. The Domestic goddess hath spoken.

On the tea front.

Is that anything like "On the Waterfront" ?

( I don't think so....)

Anyway. I read the other day on some tea snob website that this person put dried lavender flowers into their chamomile tea. Well, this sounded very exotic to me. And being blessed with two quite large lavender plants in full bloom at the moment, I picked a few sprigs a week ago and set them to dry on my tea tray. Last night I made a cup of chamomile and crumbled in a half teaspoonful of lavender flowers. I let it steep for several minutes and then proceeded to pluck the flowers out one by one with my spoon. What I ended up with was a lovely cup of chamomile tea that had a mild taste of mint to it. I feared it might be a "perfumy" tea. But no, it was a nice blend of apple and mint. Oh you can taste a little bit of the lavender. But in tea, it seemed to revert to it's minty family roots.

I hate to admit it, but the tea snobs were right!

Give it a try sometime. See what you think.

I guess I should have known that there were tea snob websites. After all, there are knit snob websites so why not tea? And yes, I'm sure there are crochet snob websites but I do my best not to promote snobbery in the crochet community.

As if I have any say in it...

Oooo, leaving the vacuum cleaner out; I like it. I often start a load of laundry for the same reason. It makes it sound like I am terribly busy while I happily pursue more important things. :)

That tea would probably be great before bedtime, so you drift off into lovely sleep quickly. ;-)

Burnt orange, I see you are right up my alley.
I hit two cloth stores yesterday in my quest for material with a burnt orange and maroon design.
I finally found burnt orange/black and a maroon/gold design. I bought 4 yards of each, I'll mix them up and see if they flatter my East Indian wall design.
I've never thought of putting dried lavendar in tea, sounds inviting.

I can see that you and I would definitely need two separate tea pots at any function. You were afraid that lavender would make it smell perfumy???? Heck, the chamomile already does that!

I have 4 lavender plants in my front yard. My question for you, pick them just before blooming or in bloom? I often have wondered when was the appropiate timeframe to harvest the plants. My plants are huge due to hubby's talented pruning with the weedwacker.

Thanks for the idea, I am looking forward to trying some lavender in my tea.

Things we learn from one another!

    Bright Blessings....... Bogomils
