Little Bites of a Big Meal
Wed Aug 11 2004

I'm up early today. Have already been for a walk, seen Hub Man off to work with his perfectly ripened peach in his lunchbox to eat later in the day. I have eaten breakfast, and am ready for the day.

I read something in Becoming's diary.... about her taking us along with her in "this little box". (Her computer) And it dawned on me that we really are "portable friends" here in the blogosphere. A rather comforting thought. That no matter where we go or what's going on, we will have friends here to talk to. Thanks for the cheerful thought B. !

Today I AM working on the re-write of the novel. I have been having the devil of a time beginning this project for reasons that I am very weary of trying to figure out and so gave it up altogether. Well, except for one little thing that occurred to me this morning while walking. I have this old habit from when my kids were little, that when I started a job around the house, or even some creative project, I would work like a mad woman until it was finished. Well, I had it in the back of my mind that this is what I needed to do with the novel. (Maybe that is why NaNoWriMo was so appealing come to think of it. Get your first draft down in one month!) But re-writing is a different kettle of fish, ball of wax, and a horse of a different color. So my goal is to re-work only one chapter a day. And I will not do that EVERY day. But at least ONCE a week. Hopefully more, but once a week at least. I was overwhelmed with pages. I need little bites. That's my plan.

So I leave you today with a few pictures from the garden.

Small bites. Yeah. You look at a big job and can't decide where to start. Until you look at one little segment that's "I can do that!"

    Love your garden!

Mistress Mary, quite contrary, How does your garden grow?

Your flowers are gorgeous! Mine looks all dead and nasty. I water, but the kids next door like to throw their basketballs in my garden and break off all my pretty flowers. Everything is looking rather ragged.

I too find it comforting to know I can come here and share, vent, and laugh with my friends here.

Sounds like a good plan for the novel. I approach my quilts that way; one block at a time. If I think about the whole project too much I get overwhelmed and shut down. When I only see a block or two at a time I know I can get it done. Pretty soon I have a pile that are ready to put together into the larger piece and presto, a quilt emerges. :)
