The Oracle Speaks
Sun May 08 2005

From:Dustbunny3

I had a great question and damn if I can remember what it was . Is this a sign things are going to fast and far to many unanswered things to ponder?

The Oracle Speaks:

As we get older and hopefully wiser, we must learn to pick our ponderings carefully. It is all too easy to fuss about the minutia, and find we have no time for the larger questions of life. The Oracle has found that when one is feeling overwhelmed, reaching out to help another is a very good way to clear the mind. For no matter how confused and muddled we may be, there are those who are even more so all around us. Time is an illusory element in the universe. One can slow it down a bit by staying centered. Creativity is the quickest path to this place. Go forth and create!

Oh Great DearDiary Oracle, how can we manipulate conditions such as to cause changes in the weather so to have a sunny Mothers Day rather than a rainy one? Alli

The Oracle Speaks:

Dear friend. Many wizards have singed their beards and robes trying to control the weather. Have you not heard of Widgit the Smoldering? Tsk tsk! Rain is one of the Merciful One's greatest gifts. Welcome it. Make hot cocoa. Dunk graham crackers in it. Find bliss.

Oh great one my question is ... where on earth are my reading glasses ? I lost them somewhere in this house of mine and am going crazy trying to find the darned things ? I look ridiculous holding my book at arms length in order to read the words . Does this mean I am finally a wrinkly "OLD" person ? How can this be .... when I feel a mere spring chicken still on the inside .... just wish my knee's did too . Where will it all end.....is it the beginning of the end oh wise one ? Should I just give in and eat chocolate do you think ? Would it help ? I await your pearls of assistance oh perfect one !

The Oracle Speaks:

The Oracle perceives that you ask a lot of questions. Perhaps you do not know about the "one question per supplicant" clause. We will however try to find the kernel of your question and address it. Looking ridiculous is one of mankind's most endearing qualities. It is a source of continual amusement for all concerned. I would not worry my head about it if I were you, (which I am most certainly not). You are going to look ridiculous any number of times in a given period, so just learn to find amusement in it. And yes, chocolate is a lovely antidote to many of life's irritations. Though moderation is always a good thing, even with such a fine thing as chocolate.

Oh great and wonderful Oracle, having had my hand slapped for too many questions last year, I will ask only one of you at this time: Where is my 63 Squares afghan book? I've looked everywhere for it and can't find it. I'll have to buy a new one if you can't help me.

The Oracle Speaks:

We commend your self restraint. It is most admirable. As the Oracle learned once from a very wise sage from the land of Wales. . . Your 63 Squares Afghan Book will be found in the very last place you look for it. May the Lost Book Fairy be with you while you search.

Dear Oracle: Where is that handsome, wealthy prince who is looking for me? --Cinderella

The Oracle Speaks:

It is a common enough misconception that both good looks and money often come in the same package. More like, you have to choose one or the other. And the Oracle would advise you to stay far far away from princes. They are most likely to be very, very, very, spoiled and insufferable to live with. Besides that, why are you waiting around for him to find you? Why are you not looking for him?

oh greatest Dear Diary Oracle where oh where has my energy gone? and pleeeaase, when will it come back?

The Oracle Speaks:

My dear, dear, fairywishes, your energy is being consumed willy nilly by your precious children. It is the way of it with motherhood. Though it would not be selfish on your part to make room in your day to do something special that re-charges your energy reserves. Give this gift to yourself. Even if someone else has to step up and fill the gap a while for you. It will reward you ten fold.

Dear Oracle, You honor us with your presence. Your answer to last year's question cleared a great mystery for me and saved me countless hours of searching for lost socks. I thank you. I am concerned with an issue of a different type this year. I have found myself of late looking at life in a most peculiar way; everything stikes me funny in some way. As a result, I have been writing rather odd messages to my friends. I do not understand this strange behavior and do not know if I should be concerned. Have you any thoughts on what I should do? I fear some type of breakdown and wonder if intervention is in order?

The Oracle Speaks:

Ah, the Oracle perceives that your mid-life funny bone has revealed itself. This is most fortuitous. Some people never develop this trait and turn into whining, wrinkly old coots that can't think about anyone but themselves from dawn till dusk. There IS an edge of the funny bone that tends toward hysteria. I would rub some Tiger Balm on that part to keep it from getting out of hand. And who ever said a nice nervous breakdown wasn't just the ticket for getting some much needed meditation time in a quiet place? Fear not.

Oh Oracle, I have so many questions that your wisdom could answer for me. I will limit my interrogate to just 2 questions so as not to take up too much of your sacred time. Whats this about the prince and Pragmatist? Does this mean he's not coming for me? Could there possible be more than one handsome wealthy prince? What does it mean to have reoccurring dreams about volcanos? Am I going to die in a volcano eruption? Is there a deeper meaning? I'm questioning my mental health, as I've not experienced such a recurrences before.

The Oracle Speaks:

Please see the Pragmatist's answer for the first part of your question. Dreams of volcanos are very important. There is something deep inside you, hidden and bottled up that wants to get out. Now the trick is to find out what this thing is. It could be creative or destructive. It could be both. Try to minimize the destruction and maximize the creation. But prepare for change.

Well, I have no idea what to ask..! Okay, should I write another novel or just try and work on the ones I've already got here? There you go. ;-)

The Oracle Speaks:

The Oracle is impressed that you would press forward with your projects even with your hands full of precious children. The answer to your question lies in how much unfinished projects bother you. If they don't get on your nerves, by all means start something new, that may be just the thing. But if those unfinished things nag at you, address them first, there will always be time for new things later. In either case however, Write On!

From: Salamander I want to know what the most meaningful and beneficial question is that I could ask. Then I want the answer to it.

The Oracle Speaks:
My dear Salamander. This perfectionism must truly get in your way from time to time. Please remember the HUGE amount of trouble that was generated by those people who made the giant computer and asked it the answer to Life the Universe and Everything. Why it was a disaster of epic proportions! Let us not go down that road again, lest we end up at the restaurant and the end of the Universe! But the Oracle WILL say this on the subject: Sometimes taking the time to find out what you REALLY want to know, is time most wisely spent. We set you a task therefore to think on it until next year. Carefully and calmly. Give it your full attention. And the Oracle will make a prediction. If you do this exercise in good faith, and discover your question. . . you will come to realize that you already know the answer.

So you are saying that the question "What is the most meaningful question I can ask" IS the most meaningful question I can ask? Or are you saying "What is the meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything" is the most meaningful question?

Either way, you cheated on the answer!

Dear Oracle, you are quite right about princes being spoiled. I thank you for calling that to my attention. So I'll settle for rich.

I did go looking, but everyone was looking the other way. *sigh*

    Thank you Oracle.

And I'm glad to see Pragmatist will go searching for the rich fellows. I'll take the good looking ones, as I intend to be "independantly wealthy" one of these days (somehow) and can support a poor man if hes hunky.

Many thanks for your words of wisdom. I am in need of a nice vacation in a quiet place; a padded room does not sound half bad at the moment.
