Pictures From The Mountains
Wed Apr 26 2006

Here is a picture of my brother (used with his permission) and the dogs on our walk the other day in the woods. That's his dog Tootsie on the left. Of course you know Sunny. She misses Tootsie by the way. They had a rollicking good time together.

It really is officially a late spring, as the deciduous trees have just barely begun to leaf out. They are usually a lot farther along by this time. So it still looks like winter up there. But the ticks are awake I can tell you that much. Sunny had two, and I had one. (We both took baths after discovering these disconcerting facts).

And here is a picture of main street in my home town. I am totally familiar with all those mountains in the background. I know every trail and gully. I have explored them on horseback and on foot. Population: 774

Okay, off into the fray...unfinished chores from yesterday are taunting me from the kitchen. I looked at the weather today and some deranged person has declared that it will be 90 degrees by Friday. For people who have been suffering from cold toes for months on end, this is going to be a shock. I think I need to go out and get some emerency ice cream to have on hand in case there are any fainting spells around here.

Hummmm! (0 EH. You will like to feel the cool 37 this morning, the Apple tree has wee small green buds on a few limbs and I have been working like a wildman on the lawn and getting the water lines working. BIG PAIN but all the drip systems are now working with only the four section Auto sprinkling to go.

I hope you know how fortunte you are to have grown up in that little town.

Husband and I briefly discussed moving to Emmett, but turned out to be impractical. I wasn't real excited about Emmett, but I wanted to raise my children in a small town.

I would be hard put to choose between a small oceanside village and a small mountain village. I love the ocean, but I equally love the mountain and trees. However, because the the mountain winters, the oceanside village would probably win out.

    Shalom

Emergency ice cream...a wise precaution. 90 degrees in April is just plain rude.

Have you a favorite flavor in mind? Vanilla is versitile, but perhaps a bit boring and chocolate though tasty is very predictable. I'm thinking fruit, but not necessarily strawberry. Peach sounds refreshing, but then again there is always cookies and cream. Decisions, decisions....sigh

Great photos! Don't blink your eyes driving through town though, people.

I wasn't raised here so I'm definitely not as familiar with the terrain as you...except maybe the trek to the grocery store. I AM familiar with the hills and beaches of Sausalito where I grew up though. I, too, love my oceanside village even though the mountains are now my home. I guess the salt water is in my blood and DNA. I was concerned about missing the seagulls but I had no need to be since all I have to do is travel to McDonalds!!! Who'd a thunk?

I haven't had time to read your chapters yet so I'm putting them in a folder and will print them out and read the hard copy when I have a chance. I'm really looking forward to it! How exciting.

    Luv ya....Parett
