Plant Your Taxes
Wed Feb 14 2007

My green thumb has been poking me in the eye these last few days. My plan is to get him off my case and plant some tomato seeds very soon.

In the last few years our tomatoes have suffered from blossom drop because of extremely hot temperatures. My scheme is to get them up and growing and setting fruit before it gets so freaking hot this year.

It's me against the weather. I wonder who will win?

Work continues on the knitted hat with the cabled brim. I had to run out today and get the proper circular needles for the crown portion, as what I had in the house was stretching the stitches too much. I very reluctantly laid it down last night. I was on a roll too. But it was not a nice looking roll.

Now I should be able to cook right along and get it done quickly. Though Hub Man is wanting to do our taxes tonight instead.

Oy. Ick. Ptui.

I would MUCH rather knit.

Good luck with your tomatoes, I'm planning a big garden with lots of goodies this year and a special place for lots of tomatoe plants, I love them! Hope you had a good Valentine's day, Richard

I want a tomato plant, too!
Good luck with yours. Your thumb is much greener than mine so I won't even try. ;)

Do you have a rolling cart or a really big wheel barrel? Put your tomatoes in containers and keep them on the cart. If a day comes along that is too hot, move them to a location with filtered sunlight.

My neighbors use this method to get their tomatoes in early, and move them into and out of their garage to avoid frost. I suspect it would work to avoid the extreme heat just as well.

Wouldn't anybody? Oh, well, there are people like tax accountants. But they're not real people. Computers in human disguise.

We've just started picking our tomatoes. Nothing like fresh, vine-ripened ones.

Oh, and I keep thinking of you when I pick the wonderful crop of blueberries we're getting this year! For the first time, there are more than we can eat straight away, and I'm freezing some.
