Fear Of Heel Flapping
Thu Mar 01 2007

Interesting things happen around here when you are not looking.

Remember this?

Well, thanks to some good Spring rain and sunshine, now we have this:

[album 65561 Spring Flowers2.JPG]

Mini daffodils and some tenacious little violas that held on in the frost and bone chilling cold we had earlier.

I have reached the heel flap portion of my latest pair of socks, and have stalled out from . . . well, I'm not sure. It's part -- I need to settle down and concentrate for this portion of the project -- and a certain vague [or not so vague] feeling of inadequate skill for the task at hand. The settling down part is particularly difficult these days. I'm a regular flitterygibbet, as opposed to a flibbertigibbet. Two totally different things don't you know.

In any case, I have yet to arrive at total *Sock Confidence*.

I dither and fuss, fret and fume at each of the 'complicated bits'. I make matters worse by pulling the pattern closer and reading it over ad nauseum, which I never seem to remember, only makes things worse.
It's better to just DO IT line by line and not worry TOO much about what comes next. I am working on this bad habit. But like Luke Skywalker I have not learned Yoda's lesson yet.

"Do or do not. There is no try."

But being stalled in my sock project has left me with no..... evening knitting to keep me busy. Last night I just HAD to have something to knit, and since I am still waiting for my Knit Picks yarn order to arrive in the mail, I don't have any wool to start a felted wool bag..... [I DO have *Felted Bag Confidence*] I decided to make a little experimental scarf.

Here's what I came up with:

[album 65561 Hooky2.JPG]

I'm not even sure I have enough of this leftover yarn to finish it.... but I am KNITTING and for today, that will have to be enough.

That stitch along the edges is called 'seed stitch' which as far as I can tell is the same thing as 'moss stitch' and I have to say that it is one of my favorites. Very demure.

Thank you for all your lotion suggestions by the way. I have made a list to take with me to the store. And thanks too for all the gentle hugs and cyber ice cream with sides of brownies. The girls thank you too.

Sending lots of oohs and aahs your way. Pretty flowers. Those little violas do hang on, don't they? I've noticed them here, too.

Bulbs and roots just *have* to show off, don't they? I love daffies, and those tender little violas are about as tough as they come.

    Congratulations to your potted garden!

Well, aren't you the clever one taking your cable stitch from the hat to a scarf. There's just no holding that girl back once she learns something new!

And the heel flap...just do it. Is it different from the other socks you've done? Is that what's holding you back? Well, you learned cable, you can learn another heel flap. I want to see some progress here, or I'll tattle to the Hen.

    Shalom

    Pretty flowers. Nice scarf beginning.

As for the heel flap. Oh just STOP IT and DO IT! You know you can! Look what you have accomplished thus far and you worry about a little heel flap. Pfftt.

    (Did that work?) :o)

Now I thought the heel was your favorite part? I got so excited when I turned my heel, thinking about you and yours. Gussets now, gussets make me a little woozy. I'll try to have a photo tomorrow, it's too dark here now for it to turn out well.

You're driving me crazy with those daffodils! :o)
