Wake UP!
Fri Jan 18 2008

I know I was 'present' this week. By that I mean I was not in a coma or something. But I have the weirdest feeling that I don't really know where the days went, what I did, or how I feel about it.

Sunny and Fiona are snoring in their favored afternoon nap spots. Sunny on the floor in front of the couch, and Fiona underneath a chest of drawers behind the couch. That couch seems to have some kind of animal magnetism going on.

(Oh. You. Are. So. Funny.)

I try.

I wandered out into the back yard earlier and observed the sleeping garden. All the big cleanup has been done, but now would not be a bad time to do some detail work.
Fine pruning, weeding, and planning next year's garden.

There is one area of the flower bed that you can see directly out of the sliding glass doors. Every year I say I'm going to plant something nice in that area since it is in such a good place for viewing from the door. Well, this year is going to be the year. I'm going to start looking for some perennials as permanent plantings, and then get some killer annuals. Something old fashioned and showy. Right now the one thing on the list for sure are Nasturtiums. The climbing kind. I just love the leaves on those plants. And how about Four-O'clocks? Oh, and I want to plant more Sweet Williams this year. It's hard to find those in the nurseries. I'm not sure why.

I guess it's time to get out the seed catalog and make a list.

It's what gardeners DO in January don't you know.

Even ones that have been sleepwalking through their week.

Yes, nasturtiums. Even the non-climbing ones.

    Bless

I peered into the mailbox today with hope in my heart, just sure I was going to get the first of the nursery catalogues but, alas, it was not to be *heavy sigh*

I, too, have been eyeing the backyard with longing. I just want the soil to warm so I can run my fingeres through it. Considering the fact that the forcast for tomorrow is calling for a high of 11, I doubt it's going to happen any time soon!

Try columbines ..they are very easy to grow and so many showy varieties ..they remind me of orchids ..very pretty .
I also love Peonies ..such a wow factor . Then my favourites are poppies ... but of course ...

I do envy you your earlier Spring . L x
