I have run the dogs to a standstill. They are sprawled out on the floor nearby, recovering. Sunny went for a bit of a swim in the pond not far from our house. I say bit, because as soon as her feet lose touch with the bottom, she turns around. But she has long legs, so she goes pretty far out.
Piper does not care for water at all and finds innocent mud puddles abhorrent. She will only go through them under protest. 'Ewwww..... water...... Ewwww', the whole time.
While out in the fields I got to thinking about a certain situation I'm facing right now and decided that 'Ignorance is bliss' would be preferable to the facts I know about said situation. Thomas Grey wrote that by the way.
But on the other hand, Sir Francis Bacon said, 'Knowledge is power.' There's something to be said for that too....
What kind of power however? 'Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.' [Lord John Acton] Now, we don't want to fall into that trap now do we?
And finally, I came to the thought that most fits into my own philosophy on occasion... the quote that I both agree with and have misgivings about at the same time. A MOST uncomfortable place try to exist.
'The more knowledge, the more pain.' Ecclesiastes 1:18
Blinders on a horse's harness serve a very important function. They keep the horse focused on the job at hand. That's a good thing. They keep him from fretting about things going on around him that look scary and my cause him to shy and hurt himself. But on the other hand, he might not see a LEGITIMATE thing coming that he should get out of the way of.... what about that?
I wouldn't mind having a set of blinders.
From time to time.
Ah, too much rumination, and not enough action. I think I'll go do laundry.
(Where's Jung when you need him?)
