William F. Buckley Of Blessed Memory
Thu Feb 28 2008

The first time I heard William F. Buckley speak was long ago in the 60's on some television show I stumbled upon by accident while looking for Star Trek most likely.
I was mesmerized by the convoluted sentences and gigantic words that flowed out of his mouth like honey that had been stored in the refrigerator. The only thing was, you weren't just waiting around for the words to come OUT, you were waiting around for your brain to catch up with his. For though the delivery was slow to the point of somnambulism, the ideas themselves were moving at the speed of light.
No wonder we were in awe. He was a talking contradiction in physics.

I'm gonna miss him. It was good to know that somewhere, someone was saying the things that I couldn't. I just don't have the vocabulary for it. Nor that soaring intellect of his which I will always admire.

So long Bill. I bet you were wondering right at the last how it's all going to turn out.

God willing, it will all be good.

I leave you with two quotes I found this morning that struck my fancy:

“Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.”

“Truth is a demure lady, much too ladylike to knock you on your head and drag you to her cave. She is there, but people must want her, and seek her out.”

I saw a cartoon in the Bee today; you would enjoy it. Buckley is at the Heavenly Gates. The angel attendant is phoning someone: "I'm going to need a dictionary."

He caused us to run for that venerable tome. And that was good.
