Ohio Mystery Plant
Wed Apr 09 2008

Could anyone enlighten me about the identity of this plant?
We found it growing in a marshy area near some trees yesterday while out for a walk. I am completely unfamiliar with this one...

I recognize the plant as it grows here, too, primarily along stream beds and other damp areas but I've never known the actual name. Sorry

    Sorry.
You could take the picture to a local nursery. I'm sure they could tell you.
    Hugs!

OK, I've got a strange question, does it smell bad? It looks like a very young Western Skunk Cabbage.

I was thinking hosta too, though I've not much to base that on. It looks like it will be pretty, whatever it might be.

It is definitely skunk cabbage. It's probably past the stink phase, though. The blooms look kinda like a yellow calla lily, and they generate enough heat to actually melt snow and ice around them. Or maybe it's just the stench that does that.
