Meanwhile Under The Bookcase. . .

Mom:

Do not read this entry.

Do something pleasant.

Bake a cake.

Read a nice book.

Organize your sock drawer.

Do anything else.

Go no further!

You have been warned.

I was busy putting away groceries and cleaning up my shopping mess from yesterday. [I admit to a certain 'stocking up' tendency right now. I feel fall coming. One is supposed to get ready for winter right?] Because of this tendency, I had an entire table full of canned goods to sort through.

As I walked by my chair in the living room, I noticed the cat's tail sticking out from underneath it. I didn't think much about it as she often goes under there for a quick nap. But suddenly, out from under the chair raced a fat little Vole.

Fiona has been on patrol in the back yard for the last many days and has presented us with three of her unfortunate victims arranged artfully on the patio rug. But for some reason I imagine she really wanted to make a statement and brought it in the open back door to demonstrate her mousing skills for an audience.

Sunny obliged her:

After a bit, the mouse/vole, made a run for it and ended up behind an end table:

Here is Fiona putting out feelers: "I KNOW he's in there somewhere."

Mr. Mousie made another break for it and ran into my computer room.

He took a breather by my little desk:

During the next charge toward the bookcase, Sunny grabbed him and gave him a toss. This stunned him a bit and he landed in an unexpected place. It took a few moments for the dynamic duo to discover the mouse was no longer on the floor.

At this point, I declared the games over. I got a saucepot and a wooden spoon and scooped the stunned mouse into the pot and turned him loose outside in the ivy patch.

I hope he recovers from his mouse tossing episode.

But I also hope Fiona does her 'mighty hunter' routine in the ivy patch, and not in my house.

(I give the cat an 8.9. The dog is disqualified. I think she is taking steroids.)

    Good kitty.
    Nice job.
But it is better to leave your toys outside.
    Eeeeek.
I would have a harder time if it was a snake.
Furry things are okay, but no reptiles please.

Ever the savior of small furries is our Yetzirah!

Years and years ago I let my cat Rosie into the house then threw in a bit of laundry. On my way back through the kitchen I found 5 furry little persian heads all scrunched into a circle then all of them jumped straight off of the floor in terror and headed for parts unknown, except for Rosie who was just so proud of the mole she'd managed to sneak past mommy. I scooped it in an empty peanut butter jar and released it back into the "wild".

That you thought to grab your camera and record this for posterity amazed me. More than likely I would only have thought to grab the broom to help round the little bugger up.
