Monday Chaos With A Side of Hen
Mon Feb 16 2009

The wind is rattling the windows this morning. It's raining lightly. That's a good thing.

Hub Man and I went to Ikea yesterday. Disneyland for adults. I needed several small items. A dish rack to dry my meat dishes on. I wash those by hand and laying them on a towel just wasn't cutting it anymore. We bought some new drinking glasses and some candles for Shabbat, And I got a really nice deep rectangular plastic tub [black] to use as a planter in the front yard. I have looked at big planters all over the garden places and Wal-Mart and could not believe how much they want for them. I got this one for four dollars. Woo Hoo! It will probably hold two medium bags of potting soil. We had a nice lunch there at the Ikea cafeteria.
It was a cozy place to hang out on a windy rainy Sunday. Apparently a lot of other people thought it was a good idea too, as the place was hoppin'.

I took a picture of my knitting table just now. In the cold light of day I was struck by its chaotic nature. I usually try to stay a little more.... controlled than this. I had to document it.

Please note a few things... Do you see a knitted leaf anywhere?  Found the pattern in that book and as soon as I spied it, I grabbed a little scrap of yarn and made one. Dum da da dum.... There WILL be more of those.  I love leaves. I can't help myself. If you painted leaves on a shark, I would most likely try to make friends with him. And I'm really afraid of sharks.

Also note the plastic bag. Any guesses as to what's in there?

(Do we HAVE to guess? What if we could not possibly care less what's in the plastic bag?)

Then don't play. We don't care.

(Fine.)

It's undercoat that I combed out of Ben's fur the other day. I have a friend in my Tuesday knit group who spins. I thought she might like to give it a go. Wouldn't that be fun? To make a little coin purse that has some of Ben's fur incorporated into it?  Eh?  Eh?

We shall see if she is put off by the idea. Though she is a dog lover so I think I may have a chance...

Anyhoo, it's time to get with the program around here. Hub Man is home for the day, but he has plans for the garage. This will give me room in the kitchen to cook up some soup. They sent 'pea greens' in the farm box this week. I'm talking snap pea plants. Not the pods. I never heard of such a thing. I have to try them. I'll let you know how that works out later...

Finally,
Something constructive
is going on around here.
Disneyland for adults indeed.

Show me the pea greens.
I know what to do with them.
Stand back!

I love the things pictured on your knitting table.
A leaf, a couple of cool coin purses (love the buttons) and what's the gray stripe-y thing on the needles? A scarf perhaps? A sleeve in the making?
So much eye candy I can hardly stand it!!

While I was eating breakfast this morning I was watching a show on Animal Planet about a woman who shaves persian cats, spins the fur, and makes purses that she sells for between $45-$400 so why not do it with Ben's fur?

I see no chaos. I see evidence of a creative mind.

Are you going to felt the leaf? I can just see them tumbling across the face of a bag as if the winter wind were tossing them around.

Well! I am shocked to see that the Domestic Goddess, my icon of organization, does occasionally have a small mess. But gratifying to learn that she isn't perfect all the time.

I would emulate this model of Woman, but I just can't seem to get to the organized state. Is there hope?

    Bless

You did the right thing with the fur. Fur that has been combed/brushed out will make a much softer yarn, and therefore, end product than fur that has been cut. The cut ends make little sharp stabbers. And yes, yarn made from pet fur is the latest "big thing."

I have a pair of gloves and a scarf from New Zealand made with angora and possum. What a combination!

    Take care and God bless....Parett
