Tangled Up In Zen
Fri Apr 10 2009

I rained lightly all night long, and it is still sprinkling out there this morning. My garden is singing. Watering with a hose is a poor substitute for the real thing.

The Sweet Peas are growing, though slowly. I am nurturing a rather powerful desire to see the first bloom. There have been incidents of frustration exemplified by me letting out a little whine, and a tendency to do a little dance of impatience while inspecting the blossomless plants every day. And after you SEE the first bloom, you actually have to wait a day or so for it to really develop its fragrance. At least that has been my observation.

You have to be a Zen Master to be a gardener. I rather fail in the equanimity department most of the time.

So what does one do on rainy days when you aren't pouting about lack of Sweet Pea fragrance?

Why Zentangles of course.

Oh, and for the record, they can also be called Zendalas too.

What I really wish I could do is some true Surreal art. Here is my favorite Surreal artist....

I'm not sure, but I think this is the way my brain is wired. All this stuff looks normal to me! Oh yeah, cities can fly on ships. No problem.

I really AM going to find my html tags to put these web links on here so you can click on them... I just need to look them up and make a list. Since Bloggar went postal on me, I have to re-learn my html.

Anyway, since I am not on the level of Yerka, I content myself with these instead...

What is it?

I have no idea.

Don't strain your brain trying to figure it out.

(You need have no worries about that. I won't waste a nanosecond on that fruitless task. I'm not going to cause any problems in that area, don't worry your pea brain, I mean little head about it. I will happily comply with your request.)

Good.

The last thing I need is rogue punctuation turning art critic.

Since you're into surrealism, might I suggest Michael Parkes?

Whatever it is, it's beautiful. I'd like to watch you as you create one of these. No talk, just observe.

    If you use the code:
<a href="____"target="_blank">your words</a> it will open in another window. This makes it easier for the reader to look as what you'd like them to see and then tell you what they think.

Er, that would not be look AS, but rather look AT. Look AT, look AT, LOOK AT! Gee whiz I'm dumb sometimes. I just hate it when I make a typo in these comment boxes because unlike other websites, I can't fix them here. Grrrr.

Yerka's work is very interesting. I like it. His Amok Harvest instantly reminded me of your story "The Seed".

I'm curious; when you are drawing a Zentangle do you do any drawing with pencil or do you work directly with ink?

    Blessed Passover

Bookmark webmonkey.com - all the tags you need there. :-)

    Love the drawing! Very earthy.

I know what you mean about impatiently waiting for the blossoms! We have a 'jack in the pulpit' out back ready to bloom, and the Virginia Bluebells down at the house are 'just about' there! There is one tulip here too . . . it just doesn't want to pop! I hope I get a pic of it before the bunnies get it.

Thanks for your note about the little pesties. I guess they are a normal part of pet ownership! They just give me the creeps. :-)

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by! The wildflowers are my very favorite thing about this place. I'll be happy in my own apartment though and able to just come out to visit.

Oh, rainy here also. I'm hoping the showers do bring more flowers!
