Spring Fantasy
Tue May 26 2009

This winter we put out a lot of bird seed for the local avian population. It contained a fair amount of sunflower seeds.  Some of those seeds sprouted in the lawn. we decided to let some of them grow just for fun. So yesterday when Hub Man mowed the grass he left this little copse of sunflower seedlings.

I'm calling it my Fairy Forest.

Though it is possible that our resident toad might move in while we aren't looking. But I doubt it. He's pretty big now and prefers the ivy patch. He can move around unnoticed all he wants over there. Though Fiona tries to keep tabs on him. She's nosy in the extreme.

We were given some fresh rhubarb yesterday so I added it to the stalks that came in the farm box this week and made a strawberry/rhubarb one crust pie.
It turned out really tasty. I added mace. [Hub Man has a thing for mace.]

So all in all, it's a bona fide Spring day when you have spring fruit pie and Fairy Forests at the same time.

I want to stay up late
and wait for the Fairies!
Let's make cookies.
Wee little cookies!
I don't want mace cookies.
I want SUGAR cookies
with pink icing.
Fairies like pink icing!

Sow ye seeds where ye may . . .

Or let the birdies do it for you.

    Bless

I made a rhubarb crisp a couple of days ago. My husband is in little hog heaven. Strawberry/rhubarb pie sounds even better. I may have to consider it when I harvest the rest.

Note for Little Miss Sunshine: Be sure to cut out some cookies shaped like butterflies. I have been told Fairies love butterflies especially when they are pink.
