I am in :

[album 65561 alaska.jpg]

No kidding. I'm really here in the wildest place you ever saw.

I have been in places with very sporadic internet access with a laptop which for some reason does not play well with others and have not been able to get my pictures to download to the internet yet, so I am stealing things off Google Images for the time being. I really DO have a picture of my airplane wing to show you eventually.

This is one wild and woolly spot of the planet. I hardly know where to begin. Most of the story will have to wait till I get home. I fly back on Wednesday.

The one thing that is effecting me the most here in the barely thawed out North is the sun. Today is the summer solstice. It never quite gets dark here, therefore your body which knows way more about when to be awake and when to sleep than you do, will tell you that it is perfectly okay to be awake, when the clock will tell you a different story altogether. My eyes tell me it is about 7 pm but the clock says 11:00.  I have decided that the expression, "It's later than you think" originated in Alaska.

It has been our running joke around here in the evening when someone asks what time it is, to respond with, "It's later than you think!"

Also, the weather is a bit on the unpredictable side to say the least. I have another saying for you... "If you don't like the weather in Alaska, just turn your head."
If you face one way it looks like thunder, the other way is fog, and you are standing in the sunshine. It's weird as the dickens.

I have been to see a real live and I do mean live, glacier. That is a story all unto itself. I will never forget it. EVER.  God willing there will be plenty of pictures.

I have seen, in no particular order.... two grizzly bear cubs, bald eagles, mountain sheep, SEA OTTERS!, fresh caught salmon, loons, kittywakes, and any number of wildflowers, my favorite being something called a prickly rose that grows everywhere it seems.

I am walking around everywhere I go with this glowing red face that I got from going on the glacier trip. I was out in the wind so much on the boat, [by choice, you could also be inside] that I have a pretty good case of wind burn. I'm calling it 'glacier burn'. It makes me feel special.

(Just for the record, I would like to be returned to civilization. This place is not fit for an ampersand.)

Did anyone get the memo
that bears eat chickens?
It is totally inappropriate
for me to be in this place.
I demand to be taken home.
Immediately.

Please?

I want a Sea Otter.
I want him right now.
I want to take him home.
I will call him Oscar.

I am beginning to regret my decision to bring the whole entourage. But there you have it. But as you know, everyone has 'baggage'.

I may not be able to write until I get home, so until then, dream of glaciers.
