Back In The Saddle Again
Tue Sep 15 2009

Well, my secret stash of saved up cat sitting money has been ravaged. Proving once again that if you throw enough money at a computer problem, it will get solved. Anyway, my new computer sits on my desk, barely making a noise, [as this new one has a virtually silent fan]... computing away with nary a hiccup.

We drove over to Fry's last night and I bought an Acer desktop, same as my old one, only faster, newer and shinier. It has a wicked cool blue bar near the on button that I can't take my eyes off of.

In answer to Salamander's "Oh no! you shoulda got a laptop!" ... I didn't have THAT much cat sitting money hanging around. Though I DID consider it. I bought the cheapest Acer desktop that had a dual core processor. Something my geek sons told me was de rigueur.

I am learning the intricacies of Windows Vista. With this computer I got a free upgrade to Windows 7 which is supposed to come out next month. They will be mailing me the new OS then.

So far, Vista and I are getting along. Though I could not abide Internet Explorer
[ I really tried hard to find a home page to like]. I found Google aps being shoved down my throat at every turn. I'm mad at Google right now, so I quickly installed my Flock browser of all awesomeness and almost have it squared away to my liking.

But here's the funny part.  Just yesterday I had determined to try and get away from the computer and get into the real life part of my life more, but here I am getting used to... [Hub Man calls it 'bonding'] with my new computer. It takes TIME to do that....

Sigh.

I'm hopelessly addicted.

(Even *I* can look around here and see that the dishes need washed and the vacuum run today. I'm going to go get the Hen. She'll take care of you AND your computer!)

Forget the carpet and the dog hair for 5 minutes and check out this glowing blue bar next to the on button....

(Oh, my, god. I can't take it any more....)

I LIKE the blue light.
It's pretty.

Well, at least it's an Acer. I was so glad that I didn't have to get Vista (the Aspire one comes with XP) that finding that out in the store is what clinched the sale for me. Now, based on what you're saying, I wonder if maybe I wasn't a little too hard on Vista.

    Yipee skippy!
I knew you wouldn't make it.
    Just knew it.
I'm secretly glad. I couldn't stand the thought of you NOT having a computer.
The world's axis would have tilted funny and gravity would have shifted.
    I'm sure of it.
    Shut up ( ).

Welcome back to the virtual world. You'll like Vista. I didn't think I would, either, but in nearly three years, I've had exactly one freeze up, that's ONE. Plus, there's no more blue screen of death with Vista. It just shuts down instead.

How cool! Have fun. The dishes and vacuuming will wait. It's not like the dogs will stop shedding. :-)

First question/observation: You mean you have a blue bar that actually indicates when it is on? Dell should take lessons.

Second question/observation: Cat sitting money????? You mean on top of three...or is it four dogs you watch cats? No wonder the hen gets a bit upset over furry things.

Third and last thought......I agree with Little Miss Sunshine; blue lights are pretty and I want one. [refer to observation 1]
