Momentary Sanity
Wed Sep 16 2009

I have caught up on a few things around here and feel sort of in control of my house and yard and ... life.

I'll try not to let it go to my head.

Classy's new owner and I have settled on Tuesday next for her trip to her new home. I am glad to have her for the extra days so I can hover over the new pink skin of her toe with plastic collars and sock contraptions right up to the last minute she is in my charge. I wish I could make the hair grow back overnight to protect that skin from her 'little pink tongue of destruction', but alas, the hair is taking its time showing up to the party.

Last night I went to a private spinning lesson with our spinning wheel in tow. I learned a boatload of stuff, and now that I know we need to oil our wheel, and how to adjust the tension, and that I was working with compacted 'stale' roving, I feel better about my wonky results trying to work with these major handicaps.  I'm still not sure spinning is my thing. But at least I can put in some practice sessions free of extra roadblocks.

We shall see.

Other than that, it's pretty quiet around here today. I'm okay with it too...

I could use some quiet time.

I'm up to here with quiet days. And further up to here with laundry days!!!

I'd almost be persuaded to jump out of an airplane.

    Almost.

    Bless

RYC: I agree with you on good cuts of meat. I'd rather not have it than have a bad one.

I don't know what my problem is with the pot roast. I season and flour on all sides then seer it. I then put it in a roaster with beef broth in the bottom. I cover it and put it in a slow oven (350 degrees with 45 minutes to one hour given for each pound of roast). I periodically (every hour or so) use the baster to coat it with liquid.

My veggies always come out fine but the roast is usually leathery. I've combed dozens and dozens of recipes and I just don't know where I'm going wrong!!!!

My little version of roasted hell, obviously.
