This weekend I met the rock star of the knitting world.
I went to a class called "Grok the Sock" taught by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, otherwise known by her blog name, 'The Yarn Harlot'.
I was blown away.
Had I been wearing socks, they would have been knocked off by her depth of understanding and mastery of the craft of knitting.
We took a brief tour of the history of knitting in which she stunned us with several astonishing facts, one of which was that knitting is only 1000 years old or so. No wonder cables still seem like a new world kinda thing....
Then to the meat and bones of the class....
I have been given certain magic formulas for knitting a pair of socks using varying types of yarn and needles from start to finish with virtually no pattern.
She is wicked smart, that Harlot, and a lot of fun. Her sense of humor is dry to the point of desert-like, and sharp as a razor. I guffawed at will.
If you read her blog

you will understand the following reference.
I Kinneared the Harlot when class was over while she was signing books.

She's really not that short.
But hey, there was a chair right next to her, so I'm assuming she liked signing books this way.
Thanks Steph for a wonderful class. I'll think of you every time I cast on a pair of socks without training wheels!
