I have looked over the diary index here and decided were I my boss, I would fire my fanny for deriliction of duty. I have no clear cut reason to give for my 'slacker' phase. I could make up a list of excuses, but I will spare you the litany of wimpy alibis.

Today I ventured forth to get supplies. The only thing that will truly get me out the door sometimes is to flat run out of milk. Lack of milk in the house makes me nervous. I went over to Wal Mart and bought myself two of these... http://www1.shopping.com/xPR-Jiffy-Professional-Greenhouse-Kit~RID-913819

I'm not sure that I will fill them both up.... 72 plants in each one!  But then I could get some flower seeds started maybe. Only thing about this particular style is that the tomato seedlings grow out of room real quick. I will need some re-potting strategies I can tell. Every year it is a guessing game as to when to start the seeds. I'm not even considering it yet. Even though I DID plant a bunch of Sweet Peas outdoors along the fence. The seeds were really cheap ones I found somewhere, and I think I know why they were cheap. I sprouted them indoors first, and the germination rate was abysmal. I'm waiting for the Seed Saver's seed order to arrive, and then I will be pretty much set.

The tree service came the other day and removed our overgrown willow tree in about 20 minutes. It made me feel so nostalgic to hear a chain saw. For years we heated our house exclusively with wood, so I know my way around wood gathering. But these guys chopped up the whole tree in a giant tree eating machine. What a waste of good BTU's!  They also cut down about 7 trees on our street that had been planted improperly and had obnoxious root systems that were starting to cause problems. Including the sycamore in our yard. So right now the only tree in our front yard is our apple tree. It's going to be really hot out there this summer. That willow was a terrible messy thing, but our front yard was almost oasis-like because of the nice shade it provided.

Everything changes.

And the changes are only occasionally for the better.

I've been drooling over those starter thingys myself. Pretty nifty, if you ask me.

Last year my sweetpeas took FOREVER to come up. I had given up on them (over a month's wait) and then suddenly BAM! There they were.

Minds, like garden, have to go fallow every so often for the really good stuff to take root. That's my excuse for bouts of infrequent posting, and I'm sticking to it.

It's all too easy to slack off. We all do it =)

Good luck with your seeds! I can't wait until the weather is warm enough to really get started on my mini-garden again.

Just make sure you don't let it get too dry, I bought a tray like that once and the plants were always wilty from lack of water... But then again I guess I live in a really dry climate.

Oh! And don't put it outside because they'll blow away in the wind really easily...

Or the cat will lay on it and well, death.

Yeah, so in the end, half died from drying out, half sprouted and looked great. Of those, the cat sat on all of them, and then they blew around the yard leaving me with exactly zero plants. And uh, then some randomly sprouted in the grass.

So, learn from my mistakes, please. :)

You can always tell when winter is wearing thin..... seed starters get to be a really hot commodity at every local mercantile. :)

I am sorely tempted, but I need a better location to set them up. Last year Louie took great interest in the whole business just as the sprouts got too big for the dome. Let's just say tender seedlings don't stand up well to batting practice.

Oh how I would love a green house!

I'm just happy to have you back. Makes me smile when i hear you planing your garden. It's always so lovely. Did I miss what you decided to do with the glass "thing" you got when we went shopping together?
