No Time For Boredom
Mon Jun 14 2010

Summer hath arrived.

Hub Man, the dogs, Fiona and I huddled up in the house yesterday, avoiding the 98 degree temperatures. We are a bit in shock to tell the truth. It's going to take us a while to get used to the heat.

We were out in the yard early trying to avoid the heat of the day to trim some more on our fruitless pear tree. It has a bad split in the trunk and we are trying to save it. Though in the end, it may not be enough. Too much wind this year with the tree in full leaf we suspect. It's too bad because it makes really nice shade now... But let me tell you, I was WAY too overheated by the time we were finished. I'm planning my garden work for late evening in the future.

This is a busy week at our house. Tomorrow Sunny gets a bath and de-thatch at the groomers. I just can't take it any more. Her hair is EVERYWHERE. The day after that, the carpet cleaning guy is coming. I feel like baking him cookies. I probably will come to think of it. His name is Dave and we love him.
I shudder to think of all the stuff that has been urped and dropped and dribbled on our carpet since last he was here. When Sunny is otherwise occupied, my job will be to get as much stuff out of his way as possible. It's a great opportunity for furniture re-arranging. I shall enlist Hub Man for suggestions.

At the end of this week I will start a 12 day stint of cat sitting. Although I am sorry to report that one of the kitties has passed away since my last time there. Romeo is trying to learn to live life without Juliette his sister. I hear he is having a bit of a rough time of it.

To add to the list of things to do this week, I got an email from one of the Sheltie Rescue volunteers this morning and we may be getting a new dog soon. This happened a few weeks ago, and the people changed their minds and made some other arrangements with family. So I am waiting to see what happens with this one.

Anyway, my calendar is full. And I'm okay with it. Because at the end of the whole thing, I will have a clean dog, a clean carpet, a new view in the living room and some pocket money to squirrel away for a rainy day. And possibly a new furry friend just to keep things hopping.

Oh yeah, I did a careful search in the garden and finally found a few large marble sized tomatoes. I was beginning to wonder if we were just going to have a lot of plant and no fruits. I have PLANS for those tomatoes let me tell you.

Brutally hot here too. It's about all I can do in the middle of the day to snake my arm around the door frame to reach my mail in the box without passing out from the wave of heat that rolls in.

Enjoy the clean dog and the clean carpet. I'm guinea pig sitting for the next month. Should be interesting. Maggie is enthralled with the little creature and spends hours staring at her and wagging her tail.
