Farewell Chaya, The Pragmatist
Mon Sep 13 2010

I don't feel much like writing a whole lot about it, but just wanted to say that Hub Man and I attended Chaya's funeral yesterday. It was a clear, warm, sunny, high noon. There were two Rabbis in attendance plus over 50 friends and family. Rabbi Mendy put the prayerbook that she used from the synagogue that had all kinds of post it notes in it about when to stand, when to sit and other things she was keeping track of, into the grave with her.

As is traditional in some orthodox circles, she was laid to rest in a plain white pine coffin. It was actually quite moving to see it. Humble.

I think her friend J. is going to miss her the most, as they were spending a lot of time together these last few years.

May G-d comfort all those who mourn in Zion.

I was at another funeral yesterday, but Pragmatist slipped into my mind several times during the memorials.

I did not know Chaya or follow her diary, but felt her presence in this community through her comments to others. And I feel her loss. I miss those comments and her faith filled signature; Bless.

Funny how the simplest thing can have an impact on those around you.
