Okay Dad, here you go...
The dogs and I went out yesterday to check out our neighbor Mr. Beaver.
You know that old saying 'busy as a beaver'?
Well, he seems to fit the stereotype. This looks like very fresh work eh?

This trip, I walked straight down the creek and found another creation of his. I think it's an older one that he gave up on because there was a major setback when the tree he wanted to fall over the creek... went the wrong way...

This must have been a major bummer at the time.
But farther down the creek we discovered that the pond is getting bigger...

Sunny was quite interested in Mr. Beaver's house.. and if she was more of a swimmer, may have gone over to pay him a call. But as soon as Sunny's feet don't touch bottom, she turns around and comes back. Esther Williams she is not.

It's hard to tell, but the mound he lives in?... he didn't have to build. It is a natural mound of earth and rocks with that tree growing on it. I'm sure he thinks it's a sweet deal. He's working on cutting down that one tree to the right that is leaning. When he gets that to fall it will make a great addition to his dam, which is quite wide... You can't really see it in this picture, but he has a fiberglass car bumper right in there with the boards and sticks. He must be into recycling.

I have all this evidence of his obvious habitation of the area, but still have never clapped eyes on him myself. I may have to come down alone one day and set myself up somewhere in a good lookout spot fortified with bread and butter, hot tea, and a good book and see if I can spot him.
I'll put it on the agenda.
