I don't know if you are maybe getting a little tired of seeing these pictures of beaver dams, but I can't seem to stop taking them, so sorry if it annoys...

It's been raining on and off for quite a few days, so today when there was a pause in the precipitation, the dogs and I made a break for it.

Of course we had to go see what was going on with our furry neighbor.

Here's a long shot of his overflowing dam from the recent rains...

There's a whole section at the side of the pond that is letting water out...

I don't think Mr. Beaver likes this turn of events, and he is doing something about it too...

Hey, I know it doesn't look like much now, but give him a week or two. I'm sure it will start to shape right up.

He has fallen another tree I noticed, up one of the furthest drainage ditches. I used to go up there and sit in the shade of that tree. Well, no more. I'll have to take an umbrella if I want shade now...

In other news, a Tom Turkey has decided that our front yard is just what he was looking for in a staging area for his dating service headquarters. He opens shop at about 6:30 am. "Gobble Gobble Gobble! Available male here! Step right up!"

Lordy. It's embarrassing.

But it could be worse. My friend in Alaska has a moose that wanders through her yard. I think that trumps a turkey, don't you?

Oh yeah. A moose definitely trumps a turkey, both in noise AND intimidation factor.

As for Mr. Beaver, he's quite the industrious little engineer! I'm thoroughly impressed!

Who said you can't have nature fun in the city?

I agree, the moose trumps the turkey anyday.

I'm never tired of seeing nature at work so bring on the pics of Mr. Beaver's development.

I don't necessarily think that a moose trumps tom turkeys. I've run into some turkeys in my day that we're cute and cuddley. They can be quite mean, in fact.

I used to go turkey hunting with my dad, which is to say we'd sit in a clump of cover, use the calls, and watch them flock without actually ever shooting at one. We did get a scare once when a wolf pack showed up thinking it was easy dinner. Wolves were endangered in NM at that point so we'd never imagined in a million years that they might be the end result of using the turkey call. My dad did blast the shotgun to run them off, though, and we beat a hasty retreat.
