Excursion Domestic
Wed Jun 15 2011

Feeling a bit like an explorer, I ventured forth this morning into the garden. I didn’t have a pith helmet handy, but I had two trusty dogs in tow. I tried and failed to get them to call me Bwana however. It would have been fun if they had.

(It would have been ridiculous.)

Ridiculous IS fun you pedant.

As I was saying...

I put on my knitted cast sock because it was wet out there and the grass had just been cut last night, so it was going to get ugly as far as picking up stuff on the boot. I’m glad I decided to do that, I had green shoes and sock by the time I was ready to come back in the house.

I’m pretty wobbly and clunky walking with my Frankenstein shoe, but I managed not to tip over.

I was rewarded for my efforts.

I visited the star of the backyard at the moment. There’s always some plant or tree or bush that is stealing the show.

Today it is the Hollyhock.

A volunteer...

I must confess that one day last winter when I was out cleaning up the flower beds, I almost pulled this plant up because it was growing in an awkward spot between the retaining wall stones. I changed my mind at the last minute. I’m glad I did.

Here’s why:

Yeah, me too.

I pulled up several going to seed lettuce plants and propped up a flopping tomato plant. It was just a lick and a promise as they all will need staked very soon.

I got a good look at my stand of Ruby Queen sweet corn. I think it looks pretty content.

Thank goodness things are happy to grow without too much input from me right now. I apply water, that seems to be enough for now.

I haven’t had my walking boot on that much today because frankly it’s hot and clunky and I’m not doing THAT much walking. I AM however stretching and moving my foot in all the ways I’ve been daydreaming about for lo these many weeks. Being able to point one’s toes should never be taken for granted! Such a lovely stretch!

The ice pack and I have been seeing each other again too. It’s an on again off again relationship.

Well, off to work on an art project I’ve been mulling over. I finally feel a little more... expansive in that direction. It’s hard to be fully creative when one of your limbs is in the slammer if you know what I mean.

Oh PS… I haven't written about it, but Acey was adopted this weekend. I must say, I sort of didn't want to talk much about it. I'm missing him and am in deep denial about it. But he went to a lovely retired couple who I fear are going to spoil him prodigiously. He deserves it too. I hear he is doing well as they sent me an email on Monday. Now, if you don't mind, I don't want to talk about it ….
Sniffff.

Those are beautiful flowers. Hope your foot/leg gets better so you can say goodbye for a long time to the ice pack. I love you sense of humor too. I haven't laughed in the past few days and you made me laugh. Thanks for that!
