We had THE most glorious rain yesterday. Real soaking rain that went on for several hours. The garden can hardly believe its good fortune. Everything is basking in moisture and sighing in happiness.

Me too.

I forgot to show you something. I was reminded of it this morning as I walked around out there admiring the wet soil and smiling plants.

I have lived in this area for quite a few years now, but I still have an irrationally entrenched mountain gardener’s mentality.

I try to get a grip on the climate here, I really do.

But I just can’t seem to embrace the fact that my list of possible vegetables and fruits to put in my garden is much longer now.

Even when I plant something that the local nurseries carry all the time , I still think it’s a fairytale that it will actually produce food.

But evidently, some fairytales come true.

From time to time...

I’m not eating that.
It looks poison.

Don't worry, I'll take care of it for you.

We had artichokes when I was a kid in NM. Loved to eat that yummy little pad on the leaf but we had no idea we could eat the hearts so we missed out on that yummy goodness for years *sigh*

I love artichokes. Tried to grow them here a few years back, but didn't get anything that looked edible. I still see the plants every year, but haven't tried it again.

It looks like something from a bad science fiction movie. I'm glad I never saw a pre-harvest artichoke before, or I'm not sure I'd have been open-minded enough to give them a chance.
