The artichoke?

I et it.

The outer leaves were just a tad bitter, but the closer I got to the heart, the sweeter it became. They ARE a strange food when you think about it. You are eating a flower bud. And a thistle bud at that.

My ankle is getting better every day. I have been obsessed.... I mean diligent with doing all the exercises and treatments I know of to help it along the way. But if I push too hard, I pay for it, so I am trying to find balance. Literally. During the times when I have to rest it, I’ve been keeping busy with pleasant things.

I saw a little felted pocket on the internet day before yesterday and decided to try to duplicate it. My first attempt failed, but I learned from it and made another which was a success.

Behold the cuteness....

It’s just big enough to put some special little object or treat into. It took me about an hour to knit. I really like it and can see more of them in my future. Some people are so clever.

Here [I hope I can get this link to work right this time...] is her web site.

When my hands get fatigued from knitting, as they sometimes do, I turn to my paint brushes.

Here are variations on the theme of my current fixation...

I wonder what it is about making something over and over? It’s just so much fun. I’m not finished with these little birds either. More loom on the horizon.

But last night?

Back to the needles.

Here’s my workspace at the moment:

It’s a pretty cozy place to recuperate, and when I am done recuperating, I’ll have things to show for it.

Win, win!

PS June sure went by fast eh?

Quilty whole heartedly approves of all this artistic productivity and the wisdom to know when to rest.

She is particularly smitten with those charming little birds and leaves. This has caused a flurry of searching Martha Stewart's web site for something she'd seen years ago that involved multiples of a singular object. To be precise it was pressed flowers arranged in a grid and then framed..... very simple and yet most pleasing. Our artist's eye could see those little birds and/or leaves in a similar arrangement.

Alas, we never did find the exact object, but we did come across several variations on the theme and a few new ideas. Below is the link to a photo gallery that may inspire you. :)
