Baby Steps In The Hood
Mon Jul 11 2011

The delta breeze has blown in some lovely cooler air from the far away coast.

It is a welcome visitor I can tell you.

I have been puttering around in the back yard with abandon. Watering, hanging out clothes to dry, goofing around with little felted pouches that are drying in the sun. It’s divine.

Today is odds and ends day. A little laundry, a little straightening up, a little cleaning, a little blogging. Light duty.

I have to say that I can walk around with only a few twinges now and then. I’m trying really hard to walk normally and not give in to shuffling or limping. I have yet to get back my full stride, this I am quite aware of and it sort of worries me in the back of my brain.

Oh I know, I am still healing and all that, but a person worries, you know. I want to walk confidently again. Sooner rather than later.

I was thinking about taking a short walk down to the end of our block to pick some plums from the tree that hangs over the fence. Speaking of which, I should take my camera and get some pictures of it for you...

Hmmm... maybe I will go do that now and come back in a bit to this entry...

[Pause for small adventure.]

Talk amongst yourselves....

Okay, I’m back.

Here’s the tree...

Here’s the waste! Oh no!

And here’s the haul:

One would need a really tall ladder to get the plums that are hanging up high in the bushes. I decided not to press my luck. A half block walk with a small basket in tow is a good start though.

(Mr. Beaver, The Ticks, Mr. Otter, Statue Lake, Big Bear Lake, and Pilot Rock are all mocking you. How the mighty hiker has fallen.)

I’d be careful about who you hang out with.

Just for the record, I’m recovering from a broken ankle. Not a broken spirit.

And besides that...

I have PLUMS!

Cool temperatures, a bit of puttering about the house, a little walk and some nice plums, sounds like a good day to me. Happy plum slurping!

A little cooler here, too. 80* instead of 88* and very windy.

Those look mighty tasty. I do believe I would get to know that particular neighbor if only to say thank you for not pruning the overhang. :)

My favorite plum is a Satsuma. They are a deep wine color on the inside and have the most marvelous flavor to accompany the gorgeous color. We had to replace my tree a few years ago. The new one is still too small to expect much, but I harbor hope that it will produce a plum or two this season.

The Greek Chorus of local fauna only mock because you have plums and they don't.

But the question is, can you get enough plums from the overhang to make plum jam? LOL

    They do look YUMMY!
